I hate to think of them that way . . .and yet I hate to think I didn't see it this long!
You are a lot like me in that you try to see the best in people always. Sometimes this is a curse because we don't want to see what is really going on.
You finally saw it, fixed it, and you are better (as well as your niece) for it. This has been a learning experience for all of you.
I am glad that everyone is safe and I still think your niece should prosecute.
I'm so glad to hear that you got her out of there. I'm just curious- were they getting paid to have these foreign exchange students? Aside from the free labor, were they getting money on top of it? Congratulations on taking control of the situation and making sure she's safe.
They are not supposed to recieve money as compensation for volunteer work. They are paid employees of the placement company, but this was strictly volunteer. We do think it odd that they always insisted she couldn't be trusted with money and it should be sent to them as money orders and they will give her the money as justifably needed. The other child just had her own credit card and spent as she wished. But they were so nervous about her over spending and after what happened with the cell phone we believed them. I do feel stupid right now, just in case you were wondering. :`

It sounds like these people would have tried to keep her forever as a slave. I think they need to be prosecuted!
