Although it wasn't as if he couldn't nap anywhere, Ikuto was a little surprised that Amu had drifted off so easily. For all her accusations and her insistence that he was nothing but a perverted cosplayer, there was no insecurity in the way she curled up against him, head resting comfortably against his chest as his arms wrapped around her and kept her in his lap. It didn't take a genius to figure out she was exhausted (probably spent too much time reassuring her friends while fretting over the falling moon, like the kid she was).

Well, it wasn't like Ikuto was going to complain. If they really were going to die tomorrow, at least he'd have the happy memory of holding her. Just the two of them--

"It's simple, Amu-chan!!"

Amu warily eyed the giant paintbrush as Saya waved it like a flag, inwardly grateful that Miki wasn't here to see it abused in such a manner. She still wasn't sure why it was even here in the first place or why it hadn't vanished yet, but these were concerns that she didn't dare to voice out loud. As far as Saya knew, her "student" was absolutely normal and did not run around protecting people's dreams in a variety of weird and embarrassing outfits.

If only.

"Since we don't have paper, we'll have to make do with this!" Saya gestured grandly at the inn, and Amu's heart sank into the depths of her stomach. She'd only met the innkeeper once, but he had been nothing but kind and friendly to her, and she was going to repay his generosity by... splashing rainbow paint on his inn.

"... Um, Saya-san," she began, but was cut off by the girl's upraised hand.

"Say no more, Amu-chan! It may not be traditional, but art is art! What we create today will be remembered forever!"

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. ( ... )
