22 Grand Reload

Just had an unusual e-mail. From the Bloc Party mailing list it was unusual for two reasons. Firstly, because it was about The Rakes. Maybe an admin mix up, maybe the Blocs really like The Rakes. No idea why they would, The Rakes are desperately average. Anyway, it was secondly bizarre because on the 7" version of single All Too Human there's a ( Read more... )

as one of the bloc party songs most open to live re-interpretation i'd love to hear how they ramped up compliments. send it my way. good show. have you heard the remixed version, by the yeah yeah yeahs guy, nick zinner or whatever his name is? one of their best remixes by far.

as for two more years, it was the single that came after silent alarm that we all kinda assume is the precursor to their new album but, to be honest, (and fingers crossed), might just be the single they released to keep attention on them while they work on a whole new set of ten songs for their follow up. it's nice enough but i'd be hard pushed to believe many would take it to their heart and claim it as the saviour of music.

Ah, that explains everything, that explains that when their steady stream of singles came out and I overlooked them I really was missing something. 2005=the year I was broke. Nice and helpful review as well, though, you know how you are always hoping we'll notice typos? Well, and thank you for not being too subtle, I think I may have found my first collection of no, really typos, I wonder, is there a finders fee? If so, please alert the awards department that I claim the second sentence. But I totally overlooked every Bloc Party single, don't get me wrong, I've touched them, left fingerprints, that sort of thing, just never shelled out the cold hard cash because, so I tell myself, I was going thru my penny-pinching phase. Similarly, I have never heard the YYY remix of Compliments, is that on the remix album that I had a gut reaction against or from a b-side? I've had issues in the past with the YYY's, maybe I should get over them, or myself. The live version I am talking about they trick us into thinking we are going to hear them ( ... )

the singles did peter out but bloc party's early releases were beautiful, beautiful things. the sheriff whitey remix of little thoughts, the b-side to banquet, little thoughts itself, tulips, the minotaur shock remix of tulips. utterly wonderful.

the remix album was a bit patchy and probably not worth the cash but the nick zinner remix of compliments was a lovely thing.

thanks for the heads up on the review too. i don't think i've proof read anything for about a week. not a good way to go...
