When I mentioned teenagers at the beginning, it was meant mostly for that specific example, mostly because the age difference between when we learn that everyone is supposed to be the same (and believe it) and the age in which we begin to alienate others because of differences is very minute. Perhaps as little as 3-4 years.
A lot of what you said at the end revolves around Religion. I didnt really want to go into that in this post, but I also believe people surround themselves with that fantasy. It's dreadful to think life just ends, so if we create something beyond that, it makes everything more tolerable.
That's the beauty of free will, you can do what you want. I'm not saying people shouldnt be allowed to choose their own path. I'm wondering why everyone is completely statisfied selling themselves short.
When we do mean things to others, its either out of greed, fear, or pain. Mostly fear I think. Greed is usually the result of some sort of fear - of dying, of not having, of needing to compensate for inadequacies, etc. Some people have just ended up being so miserable hurting others is the only thing they can believe is not fake
( ... )
Fear is a powerful thing, and, sadly, normally the easier path to take rather than standing up to whatever we must.
"Fear is the mindkiller"
"We have nothing to fear but fear itself"
Many have realized this. We all know that the anticipation of a feared event can often be worse than the event itself.
We're afraid to shatter the glass of the illusion of "good enough". We're afraid of what would lay beyond. But why is this fear so powerful? Because it is the easy path? How can we let ourselves down in such a way?

Anyway just let people do whatever they want if it makes them happy.
