[The Spanish-Italian man is draped in his bright red robes, gold cross settled perfectly and symmetrically along the many tiny buttons lined down the front and up to the tight neckline.]

A lack of proper Catholic representation has become alarmingly clear to me. I cannot believe in good Faith that His holy word has not some devout listeners even in ( Read more... )

That is very good to hear.

[More guilty souls to take advantage of. He smiles.]

And you, dear?

Oh, my name is Alice, Alice Liddell. How do you do... Um... I'm sorry sir, I'm not Catholic, I don't know the proper way to address you.

[The novelty of impressionable youth.]

Cardinal Borgia will do, or Your Eminence if you like. [Cesare likes the sound of the later but he keeps that preference to himself.]

Do you not give Confession then?

[Jing hates religious zealots... heathen that he is.]

Thanks but no thanks. I'll stick to being a heathen, and don't try and save me, I quite like my sins.

Would you prefer to confess your virtues then?

Nope. I don't do religion.

Why do you contextualize your behavior as sin then? If you care not for the salvation of your soul they should not be categorical actions. Or is it that you do believe in sin tainted soul but out of cavalier rebellion opt to embrace rather than denounce immorality?

[It seems that Cesare is taking the necessary actions to become familiar, if not comfortable, here.]

Such a burden for your shoulders, Cesare, to take this world's collage of sins.

[His manservant. How timely.]

Yes, such is the duty of one of God's vassals and so on. [A small look of distaste passes over his expression and he waves his hand before sitting forward, fingertips tapping together as he comes to a more interesting topic.]

Ezio. You know of the attacks, of the bewitched locals?

Bewitched?

Crazed, [As he would argue that there couldn't be any intentional bewitching of the locals.] yes. But they are easily handled.

[As Ezio is seen just.. walking freely through the street without some concern for those .. individuals.]

Have they given you trouble?

No. [Not yet anyway. Cesare has been mostly keeping to himself and acquainting himself with Somarium and its technology. But he did see an opportunity here.]

I do need some things though and you will escort me to do so.

That is very kind of you...

but I would rather stick to my so called sins.

Confessing sin does not necessarily mean we stop ourselves from committing them again, though that is the general idea. We all sin.

How can you believe in such a stupidity as sin? The only reason sins were created was to help control ourselfs. Yes we do tend to eat a lot, and yes we tend to be very greedy, but who cares? Your only hurting yourself if you feel bad.

[ She has nothing against him, but still. Maybe it all comes down to her being a vampire. ]

That should be a sin, to punish yourself over stupid things!

[Cesare is at a loss for words for a second. It's not that he's offended, he hardly believes all this stuff himself, but he is not used to it being so outspokenly ridiculed. Surely a woman saying such things in Rome would be stoned or forced out of the city.]

Ah--

[He clears his throat and collects his thoughts.]

Well, there is something to be said for controlling ourselves is there not? Sin is not just a stain to our soul, but it affects other people. The man who eats too much may be taking someone else's fair share of food who then goes hungry. The greedy politician may pass decrees which hurt the people of a city. A little sin can hurt a lot of people.

[The irony of him saying this is almost too much, and Cesare cannot help a smile.]

Cardinal Borgia, it is a pleasure to welcome you to Somni City.

I have heard that you had a brief conversation with my youngest daughter, Alice.

[The father already. But I haven't done anything yet. And he won't, not with Alice that is (besides information gathering if she's cooperative). An older daughter though--

Or maybe this isn't even the right man.]

Is this Mr. Fauchelevent?

That is correct.

[But that's what Borgias do best: make enemies.]

The pleasure is all mine, Sir. Your daughter is very sweet, and smart. She reminds me of my younger sister now I think over it.

[And that is just about the highest compliment he could give anyone.]
