Decisions decisions...

Okay, the only reason I'm posting this here is to help get other people's input on what I should do.

I've been thinking recently and I've decided that I don't really want to major in theatre. Well, technically I do but I really don't foresee myself getting a job that can comfortably support me in performing theatre and I really really do not want ( Read more... )

You can have any major to go into medical school, though I think pre-med or biology would help out a lot. There is all sorts of things to do in medicine. There's plenty to do with a science major even if you decide not to be a doctor. Or at least,I really, really hope so. I'm going to be a biology major, I haven't quite figured out what I want to do.I keep changing my mind, I was thinking about being a microbiologist, and then neuroscience. I like science, and I don't want to not teach and I want stay away from Office Space-like jobs. The cubicles, they scare. So, blind leading the blind here. Dad is a doctor, so my view may be warped too. It is very stressful, it's something I think you would have to really like and can dedicate yourself to. And am difficult to squick.

"Dad is a doctor, so my view may be warped too. It is very stressful, it's something I think you would have to really like and can dedicate yourself to."Seconded, my father's had more than his share of headaches in the medical field, I would say think carefully about your motives and the realities of working in the medical field before becoming a doctor. Do not underestimate the suckiness of the system! There are, of course, lots of other jobs in the medical field, that I don't really know a lot about, but it's something to consider ( ... )

First of all, go with something that you would at least be happy doing. Don't do something that you feel that you have to do or else you end up a bitter old man (And probably not like Dr. Cox...). You can always stay in Community theatre, so just because you don't pick theatre as a profession doesn't mean you have to completely give it up.

Medicine wouldn't be a bad thing to major in, actually. Theres so much that you could do in medicine... I'm sure that you could find something that you would enjoy, plus you'd probably make enough to live very comfortably...

Ultimately, it's up to you. If you think you can find something in that field that you'd enjoy then go for it. If not, then I say keep looking. People switch majors all the time. Some people even go back to college because they actually want to switch careers... Just make sure you enjoy what you're doing. That's the main thing ^_^.

I don't really feel like I have to go into medicine, it just seems like something that I would maybe like. Plus, yeah, money probably wouldn't be a problem.

As someone who is majoring in an entirely useless subject (creative writing), I feel I have something to say about this. My priorities are as follows: A) being able to take the classes I'll really enjoy in college and grad school, and B) entering a field I have some interest in, which will hopefully ensure that I don't get too terribly burnt out later in life ( ... )

hello, and welcome to a problem ive had since i was 15.. the great thing about medicine is job security.. if you pick the right thing.. your options are endless.. (btw, i'll be more than happy to help you figure something out) if you dont really wanna be a doctor and committ yourself to it.. or youre bad at chem.. look into being a tech.. or a nurse practioner.. also, when your field only requires an associates degree.. go for the bachelors ( ... )

also, you dont have to give up the theatre major to be pre-med.. i know a guy who majored in music for four years and went to med school.. you just have to take the prerequisites.. enough chem, enough biology.. stuff like that.. or you could do like me, and switch theatre to your minor.. you dont have to give it up completely if you like doing it.. just figure out a way to be able to take care of yourself (be it through medicine or something else) and do what you love.. and you know that your friends are gonna support you no matter what.. but it would be great not to be the only person we know doing a medical major!.. think about it

Being a doctor means spending at least eight years in college and four in residency. Going into medicine, therefore, requires a definite, "I want to be a doctor and I'm going to devote the next twelve years of my life to becoming one." It isn't a path you should start on without knowing you want to see it through ( ... )
