Dean's instincts were, at least in this case, right on the money. Ever since the marriage debacle and the pointed reminder of everything she'd wanted and could never have, Anna had been fighting a sense of isolation and futility that she could ignore or subliminate (especially when there were others who needed caring for,) but that never quite went away. And at the moment, the entire situation surrounding Castiel and Balthazar had her worried and heartsick for both her brothers.

It so happened that Dean had managed to get himself mixed up in that fiasco, as well as acquiring a double whose nature and intentions remained a bit of a mystery (at least to her,) and that situation could well blow up any minute. So when she answered the door, all she could muster was a somewhat wan, preocupied smile. "Oh. Hey, Dean. What's up?"

She hadn't really talked to him since they'd been mock-married (with a mock-baby that still made her ache dully to recall,) and she wasn't sure where she stood with him now. The grin was a good sign, maybe.

Anna's less than enthusiastic welcome only served to further confirm Dean's suspicions and he grins a little wider. "Just in the area. Thought I'd stop by. Mind if I come in?"

Without actually waiting for an answer, Dean squeezes past her, pressing the flowers into her arms as he does so. He glances around, arms folded over his chest a bit awkwardly in an effort to keep the puppy concealed.

"Nice place you've got here." He smirks over his shoulder.

Anna blinked, clutching the flowers a little too tight in her surprise before she actually stopped to process what they were. "Oh. Ah--sure. Come on in." She smiled tentatively, straightening a few slightly bent stems and admiring the bouquet as she shut the door.

"Thanks. Gabriel's been helping me upgrade the place." Piecemeal, and generally without asking her opinion; she kept finding items of furniture mysteriously replaced with nicer ones, and she was fairly certain the apartment now boasted a larger square footage than the dimensions of the building allowed for.

"What are these for?" she asked, wondering what had gotten into him.

Gabriel's been helping her upgrade? Dean had to laugh at that. "Yeah? With or without your opinion? At least he's got decent taste."

He shrugged at her question. He'd never been super awesome with subtlety. "Uh. Thought you might, you know... like them. And I haven't really seen you that much lately."

Dean shifted his arms slightly as the puppy wiggled, trying to figure out a suitable way to present it to her. "Just thought you might be a little lonely or something. You should probably water the flowers or something." The change in subject wasn't super awesome, but Dean wasn't sure how mushy he wants this conversation to get. And it was slightly awkward that he hadn't seen Anna since they'd been "married."
