Lately sleep had become something that Mitsuru rarely engaged in, she tried to tell herself that it was because there was simply too many things for her to do, however the truth was much more simple. In truth, Mitsuru was simply afraid of sleep, so she busied herself with other things, or with simple wanderings. For the most part this meant waiting until Akihiko was asleep to go back to her work or to whatever activity she chose to keep herself from sleep, the last thing she wanted to do was to worry him or anyone else.

Tonight she found herself up and heading to the kitchen to make herself some tea when she heard a strangely familiar voice. Her first reaction to the voice was a slight jump, followed by the tensing of all her muscles as she tried to place it.

"Zevran-san...?" Her voice sounded hesitant as she approached the couch, as his image became clearer she frowned. Sometimes she wondered if there was something exceptionally wrong with the elf mentally. "What are you doing here so late?"

She could only meet his eyes for a moment before she looked back to her tea, concentrating on finishing up with that. "I...am sorry for your friend and...for you."

She finished with the tea and handed him a cup. "It was...the second time for me. That I was taken."

"I am truly sorry."

Zevran frowned further as he took the cup from her. It was not fair what they did to the innocent people stuck in this place.

"You shouldn't you let them break you. It's what they want, most likely."

"There is nothing for you to be sorry for, Zevran-san." It was not as if he had any part in her kidnap, though she understood the sentiment he was trying to get across.

"I have no intention of allowing it to break me." Though, she was not certain if she would be able to prevent that from happening. In truth she could already see herself cracking a bit more with each passing day.

"Hm. But it is. Why else would you be awake in the middle of the night making tea? You can't sleep because of nightmares."

It was a statement of fact. After all, he had left behind another who had been having a hard time sleeping because of the nightmares as well.

She found herself slightly taken aback by how truthful his statement was, and how easy it had been for him to pinpoint that. Perhaps, it was because he was going through the same thing.

"I am not the only one that was taken and hurt." It was a brush off, and something told her that Zevran would probably know that, but it was worth a try.

"No, you are not." He only grinned with a small shrug at first. Very well, it was time to come clean on the matter and allow her a momentary diversion. "We've all been suffering from nightmares so do not forget you're not alone, my friend. Hopefully the knowledge can help somewhat."

"I wish that was not the case, I hate to think of others being haunted by those memories as I am." It was some comfort to know she wasn't alone, that she had friends, but it also hurt to know they were hurting too.

"Hmmm. I wonder." He tilted his head as he regarded her, his usual smile on his lips. "Do you think the others feel the same way? From what I have seen most of those taken have kept to themselves. They suffer in silence as their loved ones cast worried looks their way. They try to shoulder the burden of pain instead of sharing it, instead choosing to come apart under the cloak of night. How very sad."

She was silent for a very long time, fiddling with her cup of tea and shifting back and forth on her feet. "Perhaps, it's easy for them that way, easier to ignore what happened and convince themselves that they are okay."

"Perhaps. It would be a better argument if there was proof that it was working." He smirked at her knowingly. His own traumas he could push aside, labeling them as just another character building aspect in his life. There was too much to do to be bothered by things he could not change and there was no use living in the past. He just wished he could think of a way to communicate that to her.

"Besides, since when is the easy way the right one?"

"It seldom is the the right way." She was certain this time it certainly wasn't the right way, but she still found herself hiding from everyone, hiding the truth of how she was really doing. "I do not think it really matters though, does it? I will be fine in time, as will the others." She hoped. "Besides, I do not wish to burden anyone with my problems. The others deserve better than that."

Ah, if he made her feel uncomfortable then oh well. He walked up to Mitsuru and wrapped his arms around her in a friendly embrace. "I know you may think that but I am willing to bet, my dear Mitsuru, that they would disagree. You may be making things worse for them by not burdening them with your problems, as it were. You cannot be alone in misery all the time. Nobody should be alone after what we have gone through, don't you agree?"

That was something Mitsuru had not been prepared for and she found herself stiffening up. However, she also found his words to hold a lot of truth, she knew Akihiko hated when she locked herself away like this an she knew that nobody should be alone. He was right, and she knew that. After a moment she pulled away from the embrace and looked up at Zevran blushing slightly.

"Ah...yes...I do agree Zevran-san..."

He managed to stifle a chuckle as she pulled away though the grin refused to go away. It was especially nice to see her face flushed with red to match her hair and he eyed her approvingly.

"Then my work here is done. Good night."

Zevran planted a quick kiss on her cheek and touched the small of her back lightly as he left the kitchen. Soon the front door could be heard opening and closing. Zevran had left the building.
