I've read that the Key of Solomon (particularly the Lesser Key) doesn't seem to trace back before 16th Century, although things like it certainly must have existed.

It's interesting that there's a passage in On the Origin of the World in the Nag Hammadi Library, dated possibly around 3rd or 4th century e.v., that certainly seems to be referencing ( Read more... )

The Book of Solomon is a part of the Torah. It's likely that the person who referenced "the Book of Solomon" was referring to exactly that.

Ah, thanks for mentioning that. Does that part of the Torah list the names of demons and their effects?

Hmmm, there must be an English version around somewhere...

I'm not sure. If it doesn't now, it is possible that it did in the past- the Torah, just like the Christian Bible, was edited over the centuries.

Hmmm. Found what appears to be a decent reference, but I don't see a Book of Solomon. Maybe Kings? Hmmm. Maybe that's not it...
