I'm thinking that by the end of the year, I'm going to want a laptop. Part of the reason is being able to perform more sequenced and sampled music outside of my basement. Part of the reason is being able to bring tools and information to business meetings. Part of the reason is, hey, it's the 21st century, about time isn't it ( Read more... )

Also in the running since it's working fine on my desktop, but Microsoft is more-or-less dropping XP in 2009.

The new macs are a pretty good idea. With the intel-based architecture you can still run windows within it for the things that you might not be able to do with the OSX software. Also, there are some truly awesome sound editing/mixing and DJ software packages out for the mac.

The mac is it...period...It's the industry standard...period...Okay, that's overstating it a bit...But I still personally think macs are more stable, especially under performance conditions...

I do a lot of what could be considered complicated things with laptop based performance and MIDI. In any of my troubleshooting since I got a mac, none that I can remember of has had to do with my operating system. (The last culprit was a stuttering USB cable.) Both my MIDI interface and my digital audio interface (one day these will be one and the same, but for now, they are two separate entities) have nearly always behaved as they should and just shown up right away and functional when I plug them in. It's pretty lovely. I used a PC until 3 years ago. I doubt I'll go back.
