He hadn't realized how much loosing Ruta would hurt until it had happened. It was silly, really, to be so broken up over something you've only had for a week or so. But he had loved her. They'd been connected, and her presence helped ease his worry. Her gentle touch worked wonders to lift his spirits and her soothing voice could put him to sleep when nothing else would. He missed Jadzia fiercely as well, thought the sadness her absence caused was not quite the same as the emptiness he felt over loosing Ruta. Lithuania knew that neither of them would ever find such companions ever again ( ... )

Poland paced several steps behind his partner, head up, but only to prove a point. I am Poland. I am confident. I can do this. It felt decidedly odd now, following behind like some common low-life instead of walking side-by-side with Lithuania, but he wasn't sure if he should be here at all. Other people wanted him around, Germany was hurting from the loss of his 'dog'...and he wasn't sure if he belonged here.

No. That's silly. I am Poland...this doesn't scare me.

As everyone else was here, he longed for his animal by his side, his furry golden protector. Gone. As everything that protected Poland was, after a time. He was a protector, not something to be protected after all. So, head up and proud, he stood just out of sight of the door, like a soldier waiting for the battle cry.

Latvia winced at the knock, his head not coming up to look but automatically ducking lower. Not that it did make much sense here, the only ones who could enter the room would have never hurt him ...he wasn't really sure about Poland, but... But deep inside he knew that it was okay. That Poland would not hurt him if not provoked... But hadn't he done just that? Although it had been his reflection, it had still been part of him, and he had hit Poland across the face, even if it hadn't had much effect, and he had said so many many mean things.

But his brother's voice made him look up, and he uncurled a bit. Not relaxing yet, though. How could he, after everything that had happened? After... They had met behind the mirrors, but... but still... Lithuania had seemed really hurt there... what had his mirror self done?

"Y-yes, o-of course." He came to his feet, reaching uot to scoop Daina up in his arms - stopping in his tracks when he realized that she wasn't there anymore. "W-we?"

"What are you doing down there?" He would have knelt down to join the younger nation, but he seemed to be moving to his feet already. But it worried him. Why had Latvia been sitting by an open door? Had he been waiting on someone? He looked so tense ... if he was waiting, it likely wasn't for anyone or anything good.

"Yes ... we came together." He reached over and squeezed Poland's hand tightly for a moment. He wanted to believe that courage was something that could be transferred, like a cold, and spread from one person to another to another till all the world had some. It wasn't the truth, but he wanted it to be. Because he could really use a bit more of it right now and he only ever seemed to find it in one of two ways; facing the possibility of serious harm to a another person or from Poland.

"Have you been doing alright? I know I should have come sooner ... only ... " Only fear and guilt had kept him from getting too close.

Feeling a hand close over his, he realised it was his signal to step forward. As close to a battle cry as he would get here. A very very small part of him wanted to know where his confidence would come from. But in a way, he knew. Lately, it had been Jadzia...which didn't help him a lot now, did it? Jadzia was gone, like Ruta, and he had no real barrier from his hurt. Because his hurt stemmed more from the doubt and upset it had caused Lithuania, than his own. He could take a slap, and he'd face being the big bad wolf, despite how unjustified it was. But he had seen how it upset his partner, how he wished he could change the past. And Poland hated it. The past was their happy time, when they'd been together and free, and now people wanted to take it away from him and corrupt his memories, turn them against themselves. It wasn't real.It wasn't right.

Stepping forward, still behind Lithuania, his poker face slowly washed over his expression, a sweet, innocently cheerful look. Hey, look at me. It's just dumb little Poland. He's too ( ... )
