Franziska, for her preparations, had taken her briefcase out of the wardrobe, placing a blank book, yellow legal pad, and handful of pens inside of it. She considered whether she would need her whip in hand or not, and decided not to approach so aggressively, placing it inside the briefcase and closing it with a loud SNAP that echoed through her room. Taking it in hand, she checked the mirror one last time to make sure her appearance was neat and orderly, as always, then took her briefcase in her left hand, heading upstairs to D-floor, Ryohei following close behind ( ... )

Germany was charmed by the lovely Fraulein's polite demeanor, and actually was able to smile. He did an intricate dance with Herr Ryohei to hand over one of the trays and still retain hold on his neatly-arranged book with the carefully ordered separate sheets. With a polite "Thank you, sir," to his helper, Germany then looked at his countrywoman and gave her one of his rare smiles. Despite the situation that brought them together, it was nice to meet one of his children--and to find her so delightful was a happy thing. He tucked the notebook under his arm without jostling the second tray he still held, and reached out a hand toward her.

"I am charmed to meet you, Fraulein, he said, and inclined his head. "Such lovely manners--it is a happy thing to see in the young." Then he gave a mildly embarrassed huff. "By which I assure you I do not mean to be impolite; it is just that I fear I am a great deal older than you, and sometimes set in my ways. I do beg your pardon if I have offended."

Franziska's pale cheeks colored a little at Germany's compliments. Well, at least her years of preparation to be perfect in every regard were paying off somehow. "You have not offended at all, Herr Ludwig Weillschmidt," she assured him. "I was taught that a lady should always remember her manners." And it was sort of hard to forget them as an adult when her lessons were usually accompanied with various creative punishments if she failed to maintain them. Hours tied to a chair with her back ramrod-straight, or standing with books on her head in the middle of a room for sometimes an entire day, so that she would maintain her posture. Having to practice her curtsy over and over until her father was satisfied she could do it perfectly every time...but that mattered little now. And it gave her the skills she needed to impress.

Which reminded her...she offered him her gloved hand, somewhat belatedly, but hopefully not so belatedly as to come off as rude. "I do hope that I am able to assist you to your satisfaction," she stated, in German.

Welches entzückendes Kind! Germany thought, enchanted. He carefully balanced the tray and took her hand in his; he briefly touched his lips to the back of her glove.

"The thought of doubt does not enter into my mind in any way," he gallantly reassured her. "You are a lady of obvious culture, education, and propriety--and may I say, a lovely one as well. I have read your posts on the Forums; it was on the strength of those that I have contacted you for your advice and assistance."

Then he gave a brief, rare display of his ironic sense of humour, as he added: "The fact that you are German of course did not sway my decision at all. Not in the slightest. And may I compliment your taste in accessories?" Eyes twinkling in an otherwise impassive face, he gave a pointed lift of an eyebrow at her black glove, with its hand still resting in his... black-gloved hand....

((ooc: translation: Welches entzückendes Kind! = what a delightful child!))

Rufus heard all the discussion going on in the hallway, and smiled faintly to himself. This should prove quite... interesting. He had only met Miss von Karma and Sasagawa Ryohei once at the first dance class; he had been intrigued by the chemistry between them, but had not had a chance to investigate further. Germany of course had only just arrived--and was driving into the thick of the storm. Somehow after reading the historical discussions on the Forum, Rufus was not surprised.

He drove close enough to snag the doorknob when someone knocked; the door opened and Rufus smiled at the trio awaiting him. What a group they made!

"Good day everyone," he greeted them. "Miss von Karma--charmed, as always. Sasagawa-san--good to see you looking so well." He turned his one good eye on the tall uniformed individual holding--good Gods, was that a tea-tray?--and a notebook of some sort. Tall... blond, piercing blue eyes... nice uniform. Rufus liked uniforms. "And you must be the Nation of Germany. Please, won't you all come in?"

Franziska stepped into the room once the door was opened for them, hoping it didn't seem too pushy. Well, ladies first, after all. Ryohei seemed inclined to wait until Germany stepped in to see if he was still invited into the meeting. Once she was in the room, she stood before wheelchair-bound president of a world she had never heard of and curtsied once more.

"It is good to see you again, Mr. President ShinRa," she greeted, using two titles for him apparently totally intentional. "Thank you for having us. I trust you are well?" Well, if this was going to be about manners, might as well go whole-hog here. Besides, the last time Rufus had seen her, she'd been in a less...charming mood. Which was to say her method of helping teach people to dance involved yelling at them and cracking her whip.

"I am as well as I can be under the circumstances," he said with a calm nod. "Please--have a seat. Gentlemen--coming with? I must say I am intrigued; the mood out there in the Asylum is not a good one, and I cannot help but wonder if this meeting is not somehow a part of all that." He glanced significantly at Germany.

Germany glanced briefly at Ryohei, then stepped across the threshold into the President's office. He performed the same punctilious bow that he had for Fraulein von Karma and her young gentleman.

"Herr President, thank you for allowing this meeting," he said quietly, trying to find that calm demeanor he had been taught to take with heads of state who could see him. What did it matter if everyone could see him here? Rules were rules, and there was a protocol to everything.

"I have asked to speak with you and Fraulein von Karma about the situation affecting my brothers and colleagues among the Nations. After consultation with my elders--well, with Egypt who is the eldest of us all, I haven't had a chance to speak with China yet--I have come to realize we are facing what could potentially be a horrible situation. I have not asked any of them yet if they agree with my idea--but I felt I required legal advice, and... umm... political assistance before I am able to address my Family."

He glanced at Fraulein von Karma. "If there ( ... )

Franziska listened to Germany's introduction to why he had called them into this meeting, waiting until he finished speaking before she placed her briefcase on Rufus' bed and opened it, withdrawing a pen and her notepad. At least she could take her notes in German, which she was more comfortable doing, with Germany himself as her client. It occasionally slowed her down to write her notes in English, and it was troublesome to have to translate them later when people asked to see ( ... )

"Well--it is rather a long story," Germany said, unaccountably blushing as he moved to place his tray--the one holding the creamer and sugar and two tea cups--on the table near Fraulein von Karma. He did not want to have to re-hash a lot of history, especially given how bloody most of it had been--and how often he and Prussia, in one form or another, had been in the thick of it. He turned politely to relieve HerrSasagawa of his tray, murmuring his thanks for the assistance. Then, careful not to disturb the President's paperwork, Ludwig set out the cups as he talked, putting them by habit in neat little rows according to type: Kaffee here, tea there, sugar packets in a neat little pile, and the little cuplets of creamer in the centre.

"I will spare you the worst of the details for brevity's sake, as they do not pertain to the current situation--though, gnädiges Fräulein, I can certainly furnish those details later if you feel they are required. Suffice to say that many years ago on Earth, when humankind began to civilize and ( ... )
