Room 408, Wednesday Morning

Aug 25, 2010 15:23

Jak woke up to loud noise, and maybe if he had been anyone else, he would've been upset in that. But he knew what it meant: it was his communicator, coming back to life for the first time in a few weeks, and he couldn't scramble fast enough to get the message.

"Things are really starting to heat up out here, Jak. I know you've got your own thing ( Read more... )

Dinah had been meaning to check on Jak for a while now; with only two days left on the island, and the party tonight and a million years of packing to do, she figured it was a good idea to see him sooner rather than later.

She paused in the door when she saw he was packing. "You off on another mission?"

"Another mission," Jak agreed, looking up and finding... Dinah. "Maybe more," he admitted.

Dinah blinked, wandering in. "You're leaving too? Now?" She bit her lip. "For good, you mean."

"Torn says trouble's getting worse," he said, vaguely. But that was enough.

Dinah grimaced, knowing what that could mean. More Krimson Guard attacks, more explosions. More risk. And even though she wouldn't have been here to see him, it still gave her a pang. "You just about made it a year here... uh. Aside from the huge gap in the middle." She bit her lip. "Be careful? Ish. It's you, after all."

He shot her a slight look. "I'll be fine."

Yep.

"But, uh. Thanks."

Oh, yep. Just like always. Exactly.

"Yeaaah." Dinah gave him small smile. "Gonna miss you. I'm leaving the day after tomorrow anyway. But I'd hoped to see you when I came back for visits, so... does your phone work there at all?"

"Never had any trouble with it before," Jak said, with a slight, a little uncomfortable shrug. "So I guess, yeah. Sure. Maybe we could use you on a mission, or... something."

His life was pretty much missions, now. So. Yeah.

Haven being like it was, Dinah didn't expect too much else.

"That'd be cool." She smiled sideways. "Especially if time does that thing where it's a few days there and a few hours back home. It'd make it easy."

Another shrug. "Maybe it will be, maybe it won't," he said. "I don't know much about the whole time thing, to be honest."

"Enh. Still cool." Dinah looked around, then back at him, blinking, then pulled out her cellphone. "One last photo of you, before you take off, okay?"

"...A picture?"

Watch Jak look awkward. Awkward, Jak, awkward.

"Uh. I guess?"

Hey, anyone else would've gotten 'I don't have time for this'.

"Don't worry, I won't pose you," Dinah teased gently. "Just-- hold still."

Anyone else would've gotten a 'smile!'

She smiled at the shot, then showed him. "There. Not that I'm forgetting you, but. It's just nice to have." The Jak she had photos of from last year was very different from this Jak. And she was saying good-bye to both of them.

Yeah, Jak wasn't... so sure what to do with that. "You're welcome," he attempted, rubbing at the back of his head. "I think? I wasn't planning on getting any pictures of you."

He didn't say it to be insulting, or anything, he just... wasn't. "But, you know." Maybe?

Dinah nodded, not pretending to herself that she got Jak like she used to, but. Hey. "Want one? You can always just slap it up somewhere. To remind you to text when you want back-up sometime."

"I can't promise you I'm going to keep it," he said, awkwardly. "I... spend a lot of time in sewers." And being shot at. Which also made things easy to lose.
