Good Grief...

My cousin (of sorts) is a pastor in another state... and he uses Facebook as a way to stay in touch with his congregation. Today, his status message was about Rob Bell... it linked me to an article that made me want to throw up. Not that anything was new information... just that his message isn't being discerned as alarming. Here's a couple of ( Read more... )

Okay - clarification, please. Your cousin said this crap, or Rob Bell said this crap?

I'm assuming you meant Rob Bell, since Jeney posted about "who buys this stuff" about him last week. So I guess that brings the next question...

Who is Rob Bell?

I know little about this guy, but I did watch one of his videos once. It was a message on anger. His basic message was that we should use the energy we get from anger for good things.
There was nothing about submitting to God, forgiveness... it was basically saying channel the ugly feeling toward something positive for the world.
Does that even make sense? I walked away from that feeling icky inside as if I was just told to use my lust to show others love. Or use my hate to bless the world.

Huh?

That IS icky!!! And it's one of those things that people hear (a lot of people) and they go, "How WISE!"

Later in this article, he said that he has more receptive audiences outside the "Bible Belt"... I'd think so! We may have our issues, but one of them isn't identifying what the Gospel is!

If you have something to say, whether you're religious or not, if it is truly Christian and Jesus-centered, then it will help and be interesting and compelling to people, regardless of their world view.

Helpful, interesting, compelling, yes. But it better be helping people to Christ, interesting them in knowing Christ and compelling them towards Him. It isn't just about saying nice and neat things.

As I heard once - if what you preach is no longer scandalous, then you are no longer preaching the Gospel.

It's like he's never read any of Paul's writings where we're warned about preaching a different gospel.
