[The screen clicks on, and Naoya is staring at it rather blandly. If one looks at his surroundings, they could see he's sprawled over a bed, a laptop nearby. [Oh oh I know the answer to this one THE NUNS TOLD ME.]

But that's why we've got free will, isn't it? I mean yeah God could have made everyone good and all but He didn't because if people can't choose to do the wrong stuff there's no virtue in doing the things that're right, right? You gotta have the option to choose something different or there's no damn point.

[As for the second point...]

And all I want is to make sure nobody gets hurt who don't have to.

Incorrect. [You said the wrong words, Ken. The completely wrong words. Naoya's entire demeanor changes--from smug and superior to completely deadly. This is a man who will kill you without a second thought, Ken.]

Free will is an intangible thing...where it comes from is a matter of some debate. For God has hindered our free will at every step, nothing more than a petty tyrant fooling mindless followers into believing in His supposed love and kindness, all for a promise of being somewhere better after their painful, sick lives have ended.

He is the one who is a threat to free will. He is the one who has caused humanity so much suffering.

So you see, God has really nothing to do with our freedom. He'll try and take it away the moment humanity tries to take a different path with their own power.

What the Hell are you talking about?

[Ken must have got about half of that if anything. He's not so much shocked as completely baffled.

[Once he's got over staring at the Dreamberry in complete incomprehension (seriously, why the Hell the tone shift?) Ken frowns. He doesn't really know how to handle this, so he's falling back on irritation. He's met a guy like this before - hasn't he? Recently, in fact, back before this whole Somarium thing began. And that didn't end at all well for anybody... just remembering it has him tensing slightly. Christ, he's grateful this is a phone call and he can just hang up if needs be, and if that's impolite, well it's not exactly as if he'd been getting on with Naoya before anyway.

[Let it not be said that he isn't taking this seriously. Ken's seen enough people look at him like that to know not to underestimate Naoya now - but still, a small part of him is simply thinking, oh, so he's just crazy then. It sets him in some sort of context he can understand.]Hey, you were the one asked for opinions! ( ... )

For a very specific purpose. If you're going to be useless, move along.

An interesting question.

Certainly the gain is more than the risk. Freedom is something to be cherished. Of course, safety is little more than an illusion anyway, so indeed what is the risk at all?

As for that other matter, I am not much inclined to protect anything.

Have I sufficiently answered your question?
