First thing, gacked from coffee_and_ink's journal: the first nine and a half minutes of Serenity are online. I'll point out that the link claims my OS isn't supported (fucking Microsoft-consumed world), so anyone else running Linux may be out of luck. But if you haven't seen the movie, watch this. Go now. And then carry on to the movie theatre ( Read more... )

manga: rurouni kenshin, fruits basket, fruits basket: haru's sexuality redux, manga: death note, fruits basket: rin/haru/yuki = crack!, fandom, tv: firefly / movie: serenity

Waaah! You must love L in my place (or maybe you were channeling my desperate love for him ^^) since I was totally unable to find a copy of Death Note at the bookstores in Corpus despite its release date being two days ago. =( *mourns*

"If in the end the people who continue to not like her are the ones who just can't deal with Haru not being gay, that'll do."

I think that's definitely why most of them hate Rin. @_@
I have definitely noticed Rin getting a lot more liked, though. ^^ She's pretty popular now.

Dude.. Have you noticed that the rabid Kyo/Yuki/Haru fangirl who got on F_W referred to Haru's relationship with Rin as a "little fling"? o_O; I think she's like the second person who has said the same thing.

Yeah, I saw the post before she changed it to "relationship". *sighs* But I guess if she's only up on the English release she really doesn't have any way of knowing . . . although if she hasn't figured it out by now there's definitely something wrong. -_-

Maybe someday I'll even get over my reflexive snarling defense of her.

I know how you feel. I get that way too. I tend to get very protective over characters I feel get bashed for no good reasons.

On the plus side, the fandom seems to have a much softer spot for Rin than they used to.

I'm a little mystified by this. What happened? Did I miss something completely in fandom? Or was my preoccupation with Akito really that blinding?*?

I ended up commenting, but... the whole thing lacked bite. Pretty sedate wank, if anything.

Kind of randomly commenting here. ^_^

I expected a sort of backlash following Rin's appearance in the English edition of Fruits Basket, but I really didn't see anything negative directed towards her. Maybe it's because that despite Rin's closed-off demeanor and aggressive qualities, it was clear from the very beginning that she was a victim of something, and she was doing what she was doing for a reason that probably had to do with why she got hurt. If anything, I noticed the number of Rin fans rising, which is cool. ^_^
