When a fandom drags you in, whether you want it to or not...

I really adore it almost beyond words when fandom makes me love something. Watching Pacific Rim did not make me love it. Tumblr did. I'm not fannish about it, exactly, but I've hit "reflexive squee" status at a lot of elements. (As my Pacific Rim tag on Tumblr clearly attests.)

It's interesting what makes one feel fannish (as opposed to a "holy shit, I loved this movie/book/show" reaction that doesn't make you want to write or draw about it). It's definitely not sheer quality alone. I did think Pacific Rim was really good, but all it inspired me to make was a lulzy Photoshop. But the fandom seems incredibly fun.

Welcome to Night Vale sounds intriguing but straight audio is difficult for me, even though there are transcripts. Which is too bad, because conceptually it's very much my thing.

It really is! I love seeing how it works for different people. ^_^ I find it's rare for me to feel full-on fannish about things (which I definite for myself as "hey, maybe I could write fic"), but I still greatly enjoy having enough love for a story to pay attention to the active fandom and/or loving the fandom itself despite how much I do or don't love the source material.
