Furuba vol. 13 [Tokyopop edition]

Mar 29, 2006 23:29

Writing while I read, since I don't feel like reading in the living room . . .

Rin cover! I love the little "she doesn't like sleeping" note on her "sleeping" image, esp. since she's the first character to look wide-awake for hers. And I've already snarled about the bio they wrote for her, so ( everything else goes under the cut--just some as-I-go notes, since none of this volume really touches on the parts of the series I theorize about )

fruits basket: tokyopop's release, fruits basket

Oh, and I'd forgotten that Kureno actually has Arisa's address. Wonder if that'll come back into play before the end?

I think he gave it back to Tohru in Chapter 97, along with the DVD. There was a paper folded in the jewel case that I initially thought was just a sticker to cover Momiji's message, but when I was scanning Volume 13, I noticed that in the closing shot of Kureno from Chapter 75, he had a paper clutched in his fingers as he looked out the window. Unfortunately, his fingers got cut off in the TP manga (in mine, at least :/).

Oh. :( Silly Kureno. That does sound like something he'd do, though . . .

And--*checks* Yeah, the picture's truncated in my TP copy too . . . but that's why I buy the Japanese. ^^ I'd say it's definitely that paper.

(With luck, I may soon have a complete Japanese set--they're about $12 Cdn. at the store I go to in Toronto, but ourJason is in Japan right now, and if manga is as cheap as I've heard (more like $4) he may be bringing back the volumes I'm missing. *^^* (1-10, 15, and 19.)

Yay collection! XD I have tankubons 6-10, 13-15, and 17-18. A bit scattered, they are. ^^ I have a feeling I'll be buying more of them as the Akito chapters start getting released.

*butting in* Pardon me...

*checks her copy* You can barely tell there's someting in his hand in the English copy. You have to look reeeeealy closely and you can see the barest hint of something between his fingers...

As for Japanese volumes, so far I have only 16 and 17, but if I get any more money, I hooe to get my grubby hands on 18 and 19...

momiji's japanese VA is my favorite in the entire series. although Funimation has come a long way since DBZ, i still cringe whenever i listen to his character speak in english >__<.

i'll have to wait until i pick up my copy, so that i can see what they're 'going overboard' about, haha.

I tried to listen to the Furuba dub once, just to see, and it made me cry. >.> Some of the VAs were better than others, but the name pronunciation alone was enough to make me scream and hide.

I think I know what you mean. When I listened to the Japanese originals I remember being a little shocked that I'd been saying the names wrong all the time :-S
From the English version, I think my favorite voices were Kyo and Haru.

And it wasn't even difficult names that they were saying wrong. >.< (IMO, "Rin" is probably the hardest name in the series--I know I can barely wrap my mouth around it on a good day. >.> I can usually manage the r/l/d sound when it's in the middle of a word, but it's bloody hard when it's the first sound.)

Tokyopop is well known for summarizing the entire manga, including spoilers, in their 'next volume' bits. Marmalade Boy was my favorite, as you could read it and get every single plot twist for the upcoming volume. It made me squeak like a Ginny.

*headdesk* WHY are they so sloppy? Why, why, why?

*hugs in reply to your post this morning*

Wow, I haven't read these chapters in *ages*. Maybe Momo picked up "stay away from Momiji" vibes from their father? Or maybe even their mother has enough residual memory to remember the revulsion? (*sad*) I'm glad she approaches him in spite of all that.

I think she said their father told her that she wasn't allowed to talk to him. ;_; But their mother doesn't seem to mind Momiji, although she doesn't even recognize that he looks like her. So sad. It's so the best chapter in the book.

Thanks for your comments. A few more chapter and I'll be on volume 13 (Yay! finally catching up) It sounds like a very interesting release. I'm particularly looking forward to the Ren and Momiji bits.

(Unrelated, but: about Ren, do you remember Shigure ever saying something like 'I always imagined if Akito had been raised as a woman she would have looked just like you?' I don't remember if I read that in the manga or if it's fandom :-S )

Ren's only actually in it for a couple of panels (this is long before we're told who she is, and no one *says* it's her in this chapter). But yeah, Shigure did say that to her much later (*checks* in ch. 115). ^^

Thanks. I'm glad to know I didn't make that part up :-) I had read Tohru encountered someone in the Main House that she thought was Akito, so this must be that part. I wonder why it was important to have her run into Ren. Maybe it was only to introduce her character.

*goes off in search of chapter 115*
