Writing while I read, since I don't feel like reading in the living room . . .
Rin cover! I love the little "she doesn't like sleeping" note on her "sleeping" image, esp. since she's the first character to look wide-awake for hers. And I've already snarled about the bio they wrote for her, so
. . .
Sean's right, this really is Ayame's finest hour. And the look on his face when Mayuko repeats Yuki's compliment . . . so genuinely open and happy.
This is probably the last place where I feel really attached to Yuki for a long time. I haven't reread the vol. 15 material since it came out (but it's the only volume between 11 and 18 that I didn't bother to pick up in Japanese), but I'm looking forward to rereading it in December (!!!), knowing that the recent chapters make me love him again. I missed him, and I'm not looking forward to his long dry spell that's mostly Student Council . . . but it's good to know it won't last. (That said, I'm still cherishing this chapter. ^^)
Ok, they've translated Yuki addressing Kakeru as "Vice President-san", but had Mayu calling Yuki's mom "Ms. Sohma"? *eyeroll*
Huh--a flash of Komaki, during Yuki and Kakeru's argument . . ? Wow, I really haven't read any of these chapters in forever, either. *blinks* Possibly not since they came out, which I guess would be about when I was getting into the fandom . . . Anyway, I've stopped minding Kakeru's scenes with Yuki, although I still dislike the full Council scenes. This was a good one.
"They won't let [Momo] in at the front"--wow. That's a stricter separation of "inside" and "outside" than I'd thought about, but I guess it makes sense . . . And this whole chapter just breaks my heart. Wow. Poor little kid, not allowed to talk to Momiji but still somehow wanting him to agree to be her big brother (I think she hasn't thought this through, adorable as it is. How exactly is that supposed to work if she can't talk to him?).
Momiji's expressions in this chapter are some of the best in the whole series, IMO. *So* beautifully captured--joy and shock and the first willingness to let himself believe that Momo wants to know him. *happy shivers* (I wonder if we'll ever see them together?)
I like that they're translating Momiji's speech pattern--"____, you know?" (Overuse of 'ne', I assume?) Every time it shows up, I hear his seiyuu from the show. ^_^
It's always interesting watching the 12shi trying to think past the curse, to find its limits. And (assuming that's Ren who almost catches Tohru) it's interesting that the voice is enough to remind Tohru of Akito. And the outstretched hands, reaching for Kureno . . . *twitches* (And the bird flies away.) Oh, and I'd forgotten that Kureno actually has Arisa's address. Wonder if that'll come back into play before the end?
Tohru waiting to be handcuffed is adorable! And, "a girl like you shouldn't be in a place like this" sounds not-so-strangely familiar.
*grins* I do love watching the boys teaming up to get Tohru away from Shigure. Ahh, memories. *^^*
Well, at least Kyo doesn't actually throw the girl who touches him. If she's liked him since first year, you'd think she'd remember him jumping out a bloody *window* to get away . . .
*shudders* And the translation includes my single most-hated grammatical tic. "Your guys'". And I have a soft spot for Jake Forbes, so I can't even wish harm on him for it. *cries*
*laughs* Poor Kyo--not only decked by Yuki (well, rightly so), but having the girls approve. ^^ And I love the scene with the cat. But . . . ohhh, poor Tohru ("I wonder if someday I'll be pushed away like that").
Zombie!Yuki. So cute. Also, Kakeru's hurt look when he seriously thinks Yuki "isn't speaking to him".
And finally, I think they're going WAY overboard with spoilers in the "next volume!" summaries. That's just ridiculous. :/
