Title: Old Friends.
Pairing: Fraser/Smithbauer
Rating: Very light R. Implied stuff.
Word Count: 599
Notes: I committed Smithbauer. I console myself by remembering that Fraser didn't know RayK back then. Plus, you just know something happened when Mark stayed over. Just don't tell my Grandmother I came home and wrote this after dinner at her place, ( Read more... )

I don't think my love for this pairing is any big secret, but YES. This is excellent, and so very them, and I love Fraser being so real with someone.

Thanks!

It's a guilty pleasure of mine, actually. I just never expected to write it. But now that I have, I think I may be inclined to do it again sometime.

I'm so very happy the connoisseur approves! *g*

Wow. I'm not normally a big fan of this pairing, but there was something about this. I think it was the idea of two men who grew up in a more accepting environment learning they have to hide it, and needing the comfort of the other person. And the emotion was perfectly pitched.

That whole episode screams of slash to me. Mark's overpowering behaviour at the beginning means he doesn't want his secret to get out. But then he goes to Fraser, because Fraser shows him the secret is safe. And then, after that, they get really relaxed and playful and... boyhood sweethearts. Seriously.

I'm glad it came off okay. I didn't want to get sappy, but at the same time, I worry about sounding too cold.

Thanks so much for your kind words. :)

Hey, you're allowed to commit Smithbauer as long as you do it like this. Fraser having a real past is just great.

*phew*
The main reason I've never tried this before is that Mark was Fraser's first love IMO. You don't want to mess those ones up, you know. But then I thought, hey, I've got to be mad to even be trying this challenge, so why the hell not.

I'm so relieved I didn't blow it. :)

You know that I'm a DS newbie. I'm not familiar with Mark's character, but it made no difference to my enjoyment of the story. I loved the word-play, and Ben's "if I can't see you..." tactic.

It's one of the few times I've enjoyed anything to do with hockey. *lol*

See THAT makes me happier than it has a right to. *g*

Mark was only in one episode, so there's not to much to get familiar with, (professional hockey player being targeted by the mob for not throwing a game when he'd said he would) but it was the first time we got to meet anyone from Fraser's past who wasn't a Mountie, really. So it's kind of like...he was Fraser's first boyfriend.

The straws we clutch. LOL

Geez, what did your grandmother FEED you?

I much like this. I especially like that cocky ol' Smithbauer is all full of compliments. Heh.
