Success

The test was a success and I can say I've conquered JLPT Level 2.

I found the answers posted online the day after the test and I'm predicting 326 / 400 points, or 81.5%, meeting my initial hope of 80%.

Now, onto Level 1......where to start?

Congratulations, Jeff. Your hard work has definitely paid off.
About Level 1--how important is it? I thought your original goal was to get as far as level 2 and stop. I sure hope your rigorous preparation will permit you to take a break for your wedding and honeymoon. Flash cards on the honeymoon don't sound very romantic.

If I might be so bold to suggest it, I'm sure Leizel could be quite an aid. There must be a way to combine flash cards and strip poker...

Dad, perhaps I only thought it possible to get to Level 2 while on the JET program, but there was never a plan to stop there. Unfortunately, there's no "finish line" with learning a foreign language...it goes on forever and ever. But I'll reassure you, while I study a lot I'm not so far gone as to do it while traveling. I have trouble as it is anyway getting a good amount of studying done outside my "ideal study environment", which happens to be my desk at work. As I plan on the honeymoon bearing little if any similarities to my desk at work, I don't think there will be a problem.

Stine...certainly there are many possibilities in the universe. But, Leizel is studying too so then I suppose I'd have to reciprocate there. Anyway, the cards are all managed by a nice piece of OSS called Anki. It was created for language learning but actually it's effective in memorizing just about anything type of facts. QT toolkit, ftw!
