upgrading firefox

I am trying to update my version of Firefox to 9.0 from 8.0.1.  The tool that pops up in Firefox at first never actually connects, so I have to do it manually.  Trouble is, I am running 8 but also have the Ubuntu release for Ubuntu 10.04 (I think it's Firefox 3.5 or something) that I do not use.  What I need to know is: when I download Firefox 9.0 ( Read more... )

I don't know all the details of this, so I'm reluctant to offer an opinion on it, but Canonical has a page here on manual Firefox updates for Ubuntu.

As I posed in UbuntuLinux, which seems to be quite dead:

Add the PPA here. You'll get 9.01 through official update channels, and it'll replace the packaged FF 3.5, not your 8.0 install.
