Now that you mention it, I did have a similar-in-some ways problem awhile back on a laptop that trying out different distros on. I eventually came to the conclusion that the CD-rom drive is getting flaky and can only successfully complete an installation about 1/3 of the time. Most of the time, I got errors of the 'bad media' sort but other times, the system was quite creative with the kinds of errors and states it could put itself in in an effort to impress me. Either way, Kudos!

This is what I like about linux: as frustrating and as frequent as the issues may be, if you try enough you'll solve your own problem.

When I suggested Mandriva, I forgot they were a LiveCD now. I must have been using an OLD version.
Glad you got it working. You are made of magic and could easily replace Copperfield.
