LOL!! Yes, that would be pretty much the only thing that would get Jayne thinking Deep Thoughts(tm).

I love Book wondering about Jayne asking him that when Book was about to spot him and deciding it probably wasn't about trust. These, however, are my two favorite bits (which you conveniently placed right next to each other):

Realization hit Book hard, rather like a fist to the side of the head, but then, consider the source. Jayne, who wouldn’t recognize crass if it stabbed him repeatedly in the kidney, wasn’t actually trying to be annoying.

That just ... it captures Book's voice so well, and captures Jayne so well. I just love it to bits!

Hee - poetical and philosophical!

You know, I'm not sure if that's Book or my own sardonic voice, but I'm glad it worked.

I could more easily see the Jayne bits being Jayne's (and I mean the dialogue!).

I forgot to say thanks. Thanks! I really appreciate your constant support.

LOL! This was fabulous. It was Jayne's attempt at philosophy, but poor Book! This was very clever :)

Thanks! I'm so glad you found it funny! You made me realize I've only written 3 humorous FF stories, but that I really like doing humor with them.

Sporfle!! I find myself sitting here imaging a futuristic version of SNL's 'Deep Thoughts by Jayne Cobb.' And how easily I can picture the pursing of Jayne's lips as he knits his thoughts together.

I love it when you write this verse. But then again, when don't I love your writing.
