Well the flap came and went about LJ allegedly forcing you to specify your gender. Turns out it was a coding mistake or some such. Imagine that! LJ did something that actually wasn't part of a nefarious plot to anger their user bse. Well, it's certainly disrespectful towards those who identify as what you think doesn't exist, and I have no idea why you would do this, but...yeah, your thing.

So small that I doubt anyone at LJ would ever one day proclaim "we must purge ourselves of these miserable androgynes! Remove their option box at once!"

No, and nobvody really believed that, as far as I can see. Most supposed it had something to do with improving ad targeting, which would make more sense than your example.

I guess I don't see why ad targeting is something to get all offended over. Other than being an eyesore it's really nothing to get worked up over.

I just don't see how it's any of their business to know if you don't want them to? or other than for statistic purposes or tailoring ads to your gender... and if i want to opt out of that I should be able to. Many ads geared towards women i'd just find offensive ( ... )
