have you ever thought about creating an on-going book review comic for a newspaper? like, you read a popular book over however many weeks and then draw a review comic of it? i think that would be a fun idea. and you're more than skilled enough to do it.
the cool thing about it is, even if you don't read the entire book in a week, just a few panels like this are just enough to get people interested, because obviously you don't want to spoil the book for them by revealing everything; just a nice overview. which i think (reading and drawing of a simple 4-8 panel comic) could be done in a week. hell, if i had the time, i'd do it. but i don't think they'd appreciate a t-rex with tank tread legs and a cannon sticking out of his chest a good book review.
Yeah, I'd like that. And I think I'd need more than 4-8 panels - but if someone gave me the same amount of space they give a normal book review, I'd be able to do it.
This job is over in Jan., so after that I'm going to pursue it.
I like how this reminds more of the older Peanuts strips rather than the "classic" ones we're all familiar with, that are still being printed in newspapers.
I really like the early stuff. The 50s and 60s stuff is so sad and poignant and funny. I think he lost momentum in the 80s, and after that, he just wasn't as good.
To be fair on Schulz' part, he was aging and such. There's only so much you can put into a work for that long, on top of getting old, etc.
That said, you're definitely right about the 80s being signs that he was slowing down. I think Art Spiegelman points out the same thing in this book (the first entry is Spiegelman on the death of Schultz).
