I'm almost embarrassed to post this, because it's so darn positive, really, I guess. Far more than the personal stuff. This morning while eating breakfast I read a random story about women dealing with their history of abuse, and one of the comments was from a woman just starting to deal with her own, and how much she felt like she couldn't even ( Read more... )

The juxtaposition of "I don't want you to be uncomfortable" with "you should go do this thing that (at best) makes you uncomfortable" suggests a special sort of cluelessness, over and above the base cluelessness of telling an adult how she should live her life. :)

I read it as "This makes me feel uncomfortable, but I don't want to admit such weakness, so I will solicitously attribute such feelings to you." Though, y'know, without anything like that level of self reflection. I usually won't even call them on it to that extent, since it's usually a shock reaction, unless they've particularly irritated me ( ... )
