Also... Has anyone read CJ Cherryh's Cyteen and it's sequel written twenty years later Regenesis? And might you be interested in discussing it ( Read more... )

I read Cyteen, many years ago, and loved it. I haven't read Regenesis. I could, though.

Cyteen is hands down one of my favorite books (I like the Merchanter Alliance books generally, but Cyteen is in its own category). Regenesis sets up some interesting possibilities, and I've been trying to reserve judgement as the structure implies that it's the first part of an extended series, but the handling of a wider range of science was a little weird (if somewhat necessitated by changes in science between when the two books were written) and some of the characterization seemed markedly inconsistent.

It's worth reading. But.

I have read both, though only once each, and it was probably the best part of 20 years ago that I read Cyteen.*

As you've said, I en joyed both books, though I definitely felt that Cyteen was far the better of the two.

(*) The first book was probably 2-3 yrs old when I read it, the second had only been out a month or two, so it was a big gap.

I remember really remarkably little of Regenesis, and can't get through a re-read it during the lifespan of a discussion, but I might tag on a comment six months from now... Would read discussion with interest anyway.
