After Tyki left - well, after Zechs had allowed Tyki to leave - he had spent a few hours poking around the party, conversing with various guests. But eventually his insurmountable rage within, his Noah having been thwarted of its prey, grew too much. He found the doorway through the Ark that had brought him to the party, and left for Tyki's world.

A few dead Finders later, and without actually locating his own Exorcist he was supposed to kill, Zechs returned to his estate in Germany. He didn't know why he lived there, and was confused as to the reason he'd buy such an estate upon another world. But no matter. It was convenient, and he was certain no-one knew of it, save Tyki.

It was in the very small hours of the morning when he fell asleep. Only two hours later dawn broke - which meant, miraculously, Zechs still slept even as the virus slipped away, leaving him soft and human in his own bed.

And in the grip of a terrible nightmare, started when he was still affected, made only stranger and more horrific by his returning humanity.

By the time Tyki had recovered, he was sure Zechs wasn't on the island. He had sent many of his teases out over the night, anyway, to keep himself apprised of the Noah's location, and it appeared none of them had seen him for several hours. He had gone back out the portal they had come through.

Tyki returned to the Ark himself, but there was no sign of Zechs there, either. Hoping that he hadn't gone off somewhere strange, Tyki then went to Germany, and finally found his lover, still asleep in his bed.

Relieved and still heartsick and emotional, Tyki sank to his knees beside the bed and rested his head there, shuddering softly.

After a few minutes, he realized that Zechs was having a nightmare. He was moving and making small sounds. Reaching out, he touched Zechs' shoulder. "Zechs," he whispered, almost afraid to wake him. "Zechs, wake up, my love. Everything's all right now."

Dreams never made much sense, especially nightmares. Under a normal circumstance, they were several of his worst memories thrown in together, with a lot more guilt and people dying off, and several things disobeying the laws of physics. Due to their mere illogic, once Zechs had fully awoken, they seldom bothered him. Apparently his dreams of as a Noah were no different - save for the fact they were even darker, now fueled with his dark desire to wipe out humanity ( ... )

Tyki swallowed. Which part? Obviously the dream hadn't been real, but he was pretty sure Zechs knew that.

"It was a virus, I think," he said softly. "I saw others who I think were our acquaintences, caught in the grip of it. It made us what we had dressed up as."

He looked away, glaring at a spot on the floor so that he wouldn't be glaring in Zechs' direction. "I was a fool to suggest those costumes. Something like that had never occurred to me, but perhaps I should have realized that the gods would play such a trick on us."

Zechs knew it was a virus, because that was the only reasonable explanation. He had realized it as soon as Tyki called forth the butterflies and called them Innocence. He'd observed it throughout the evening, affecting other individuals, but due to the virus' nature, hadn't realized what was going on. Just hours before, he had been in the grip of its power - the cold logic and malice not unlike ZERO, except with more malicious intent. And it had been so easy to fall prey to it. Zechs began to shake ( ... )
