Our culture has a serious problem with devaluing the arts as "not real work" - I'm sure you've come across it, where people ask you to work "for the exposure" or outright for free because "well, it's not like it's real work for you anyway, right? It's fun." It happens to visual artists, musicians, writers, and just about anyone in the business, quite regularly, and it sucks.
Newsflash, folks - art is work. Sure, it's often interesting and challenging work, and sometimes it is fun, but sometimes it really really isn't. And someone who's good at it isn't just naturally talented - they've worked their ass off to get there. (In fact, often the more-talented people never get past mediocrity because they don't develop the discipline to do the work to get good.) Have a little respect.
