Seems I caught a virus infection AGAIN (I made sure to roll my eyes at the doctor yesterday when he told me) and have therefore been confined to my bed since Saturday. Which gives me ample time and opportunity to read. I actually shouldn't even be here posting this, but I had to send someone a PM about primer_equipo and there's an issue about a Threadless shirt ( Read more... )

Personally, it's not so much that I don't like the Rincewind books, as I like the other books so much more. Sure, Rincewind's fun and surprisingly smart (especially compared to the most of the rest of the wizards - well, kind of), it's that the other books are so much better. Most of the Rincewind books pretty much has him running across truly impressive amounts of the Disc, while the other series delve deeper into Ankh-Morpork and the nation of Lancre. Besides, the first books were mostly conceived as parodies of standard fantasy - Conan, Pern, that kind of thing. They get better stories as they go along.

Also, I vote Equal Rites for your next read. You need to meet Granny Weatherwax.

Also, and this is perfectly relevant I'll have you know, I wonder where I can get a sticker for my computer with "anthill inside".

Sorry to hear you're sick again! Are you still not smoking? Because it's quite normal to get all kinds of annoying viruses and colds after you've stopped smoking. Inhaled smoke kills all kinds of germs and bugs in the upper respiratory tract XD

Get well soon!

OMG, ICON SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

As you were...

I'm very, very sorry you ill, dear. Hope you feel better soon!

I give my vote to "Equal Rites" (you don't want to miss Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg) and then you should just carry on with the publication order, at least for your first read-through (which won't be the last, I bet!). You can pick story-arcs later, once you're more familiar with the characters and the world.

I'm very glad you're enjoying the Discworld... I love the Rincewind books, even though those two first ones are the weakest of the series in mine (and many other people's) opinion. Yes, it gets better! :)

Get well soon, dear!

Get well soon! Or don't, so as to have more time for reading :P

I remember that quote! I love that quote! *grins*

I love them all, Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic (saw the movie versions of these semi-recently, and they were also brilliant, although Ankh-Morpork was significantly cleaner than in the books) most certainly included, but the characters and the discworld itself both grow depths (layers/nuances/history/stuff) as the series goes along, and then I miss those depths in the earlier books. At least, I thought I did, but then I read a random page of The Light Fantastic and enjoyed it tremendously, so possibly a reread of the entire series is called for.
I'd say go with Equal Rites - if you're going to read them all anyway (and you should), you might as well do so in order. And Equal Rites has wizards in, too.
