I agree, of course, there's a bright side to every disaster because they make people aware of their mistakes. And I personally was surprised that there was still a survivor of the Titanic tragedy because it's been quite a long time since 1912!
By the way, I'm getting a bit frightened about the amount of stuff we agree on! Is there anything we disagree on, apart from our favourite German club? XDD
And you're right, it's indeed surprising that the story of Dr. Kästner hasn't gotten any media attention at all! O__O Granted, we lost that war, but shouldn't we be respectful and proud of those who fought for their country? (At least back then, soldiers were still fighting for their country...)

Seems that if you want to be recognised as a war veteran and have advantages because of it, you need to be American. Honestly, though, I'd rather keep our more or less reasonable view on war than adopt the Americans'. *shudders*

And I was surprised to hear about the last Titanic survivor passing away. Wow. It's quite a shock to realize that it is the end of a very important story. A piece of real history is over.
