Awesome match summary! Do you take notes during the game?? *wonders how on earth you do it!*
BTW my icon choice is irony... black humour... whatever you want to call it
I think we just saw the next European Champions. OK, Portugal played well. OK, Germany looked great. OK, we haven't seen Spain yet. BUT - wow. Those Dutch? Awesome. That was the prettiest football I've seen in a long time I mean the GAME, not the players... *sigh* guess you can't have it all
*quakes in her boots at the prospect of playing vs. Holland*
Hehe, yeah, I take notes during the game. I always have my notebook (not the laptop XD) on the table in front of me and write down what happens. Line-up, yellow cards, goals, etc. You'll see tomorrow. :D
I think we just saw the next European Champions. I'm with you on this. The Dutch have so much individual class but at the same time, they totally play like a team, which is absolutely fantastic. Also, they don't play to defend, they play to attack and thus provide with beautiful, entertaining football. They'd really deserve the title.
I can understand the Dutch people's doubts about the team, because ever since van Basten took over, he kept promising good football but it didn't come. Now we're finally getting it - a bit late, but still most welcome. :)
I will try to say something a little more coherent when I am finished writing my entry/back from my meeting, but it's official, I am in love with Wesley Sneijder. LOVE.
I hope you don't mind me butting in, but holy smokes, what a game indeed. How tidy with the ball were the Dutch? And their technical abilities as well. I think I'm watching far too much English football that I was pleasantly surprised the ball was mostly passed to feet throughout the match, and there was almost no hoofing from either goalies to the midfield, even the defenders didn't hoof the ball.
The three players behind Ruud impressed me: Dirk, VDV, and Sneijder, all played tremendously. The win was a team effort though. Top, top match. Now I just hope they keep this level of their game throughout the tournament.
Oh, I don't mind in the least! Butt in as often as you like, I really appreciate it when people discuss games with me! :)
How tidy with the ball were the Dutch? And their technical abilities as well. Totally with you. It was such joy to watch them. I'm not too well acquainted with the Premier League because I don't have access to digital channels where I live (which includes football Pay TV, meh), but I know the German league in and out, and there usually aren't such accurate passes throughout the whole match or such high speed. So yeah, I was impressed. :D
I'm glad that the Dutch managed to keep up their excellent way of playing throughout the group stage, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for them. (Even though that will result in the Russians dropping out, which will be a sad thing because they play beautiful football, too.)
What an awesome game!!! I was at work when it was on, but I watched the replay of it later! OMG but Wesley Snejder was amazing! And Dirk Kuyt. OMG I just realized how great he is at getting the ball to the striker! (No wonder Fernando Torres has been doing so well at Liverpool! I'm sure it's Dirk.) Anyway, I couldn't be happier, really. The Dutch look really strong. What a great surprise this was.
Oh, WORD to what you wrote about Kuyt. He's so selfless and works so hard, and a team couldn't wish for a better striker. *loves him* (I haven't watched a lot of Liverpool matches this season, but I bet Dirk helped Fernando a lot. :D)

Many Dutch people had severe doubts at the start of this tournament, but I guess we'll see a lot more orange in the streets the coming week(s) ;-)
