Thanks! :D
I don't think that there will be more to this. I'm quite busy writing fic at the moment and I don't have a fitting plot-monkey to continue this (not that I need another one, of course *flails*). However, we all know how it'll continue, right? :D

*hugs 'n' beer back* :D

This is delicious! Naughty, snarky James, needling Jack. Perfect. Only one historical quibble: officers in the Royal Navy were not flogged---young Middies would be caned---but an officer would never be flogged--that was a punishment reserved for the common tar.

Absolutely loved this line: When it came to human relationships, lies revealed more than they hid.

Lovely work! Thank you for sharing it!

Depends. Captain Bligh had Lt. Christian flogged in Tahiti, according to the book I've read - and the movie. Christian never forgave him for that. However, I didn't mean to imply that Norrington was flogged. I knew that they had the cane for midshipmen. But I wouldn't say that the cane - if "properly" used - can't leave scars.

Most true...and that Bounty flogging was a great deal at fault for sparking the mutiny. Silly buggers. *G* Poor soused little James! *G*

*runs in quickly with a fly by comment*

But you do realise the movie is largely bunk and Captain Bligh was generally speaking a good guy, to the point where there was once a seperate mutiny in which Bligh was one of the few officers spared on account of everyone liking him so much?

Normally I'm not huge with the soapbox, but it's my dad favourite mid-every-mutiny-movie-ever rant.

Ooh, what a wonderful little story! I love their argument over how to address Sparrow, and the flashback is very interesting. It doesn't paint Gillette and Groves in a very flattering light, though! Silly stupid boys. *g* Love the ending, with Norrington's realization that he and the pirate might actually have things to talk about with each other. Great hisotrical fact about the beer, too! *is a geek* =)

Whee! Thanks! :D I'm glad you liked that part about Norrington addressing Sparrow, because it was actually the plot-monkey and I built the fic around it. :) Well, Gillette and Groves were kids, just like Norrington - I don't think you can hold it against them to want to teach their comrade. ;)
I love it when Norrington realizes that Jack isn't just a nuisance but that they actually have things in common. :)
The thing with the beer came into my mind after having read Anthony Blackmore's Rum, Sodomy & the Lash - there's information in it on food and drink on a ship and I found the phrase "one over the eight" most intriguing. :)
