This is delicious! Naughty, snarky James, needling Jack. Perfect. Only one historical quibble: officers in the Royal Navy were not flogged---young Middies would be caned---but an officer would never be flogged--that was a punishment reserved for the common tar.

Absolutely loved this line: When it came to human relationships, lies revealed more than they hid.

Lovely work! Thank you for sharing it!

Thank you! :) Glad you liked! :)

Depends. Captain Bligh had Lt. Christian flogged in Tahiti, according to the book I've read - and the movie. Christian never forgave him for that. However, I didn't mean to imply that Norrington was flogged. I knew that they had the cane for midshipmen. But I wouldn't say that the cane - if "properly" used - can't leave scars.

Most true...and that Bounty flogging was a great deal at fault for sparking the mutiny. Silly buggers. *G* Poor soused little James! *G*

But you do realise the movie is largely bunk and Captain Bligh was generally speaking a good guy, to the point where there was once a seperate mutiny in which Bligh was one of the few officers spared on account of everyone liking him so much?

Normally I'm not huge with the soapbox, but it's my dad favourite mid-every-mutiny-movie-ever rant.

Oh, I didn't mean the old movie, I mean the new one. :) I quite liked Bligh's portrayal in it.

Now that's interesting. The book didn't mention that one. Was it on the same ship?

Hehe, I've not seen the most recent one :). Mostly 'cause I'm sick of dad's aforementioned soap-box posing, even if it is understandable ( ... )

Yeah - though I don't think that Bligh did it out of mere malice. There were a lot of things that made him do it and Christian acting all emo and hurt certainly wasn't justified either. But you're right - silly buggers.
