first, i would like to report that yahoo messenger makes my computer crash. yesterday and today, i had to completely uninstall and then reinstall yahoo messenger in order to get it to open w/o crashing my computer. yeah, it's working for now... but i don't want to have to keep reinstalling yahoo messenger! so... any of my more techie people have ( Read more... )

I suspect that, were it possible to reliably measure, we'd find that the healthiest option for most people (in the absence of actual metabolic conditions, eating disorders, or other disease states) would be to let the body pick the weight it wants and leave it be. Whether that turns out to be fat, thin, or somewhere in between.

But in this screwed-up society, we can't possibly know whether a given person is at their body-appropriate setpoint or not. What we can be sure of, though, is that there are *way* more women who are mangling their health in a deliberate effort to get thinner than their bodies want to be than women who screw themselves up the other way round.

(Which is me saying in my own idiosyncratic geeky engineer fashion "I agree with you".)
