Ohhh. OUCH. (I can't believe you did that. *pouts* ;))

But objections to the death of certain people aside: that was fantastic, honey.

when the kids were 7, Toby taught them both how to throw a punch if they needed to defend themselves, and Molly had picked it up faster than Huck had.
YES. (Huck's not a fighter. *nods*) But Toby would completely do that, not realising that his kids are not growing up in Brooklyn in the 50s. *hearts him*

"He said...he said that's why Daddy died. Billy said that only bad people get cancer, and only the really awful ones die cause of it."
Left me breathless. Of course. But god, poor Molly. (And Andy too.)

Molly may have inherited Toby's dark eyes, but Andy will be damned if she'll allow her children to his sadness as well.
*wipes tear away* Hurt in all the right places. PERFECT Andy.

Molly thinks for a minute, and finally nods. "That's okay, I guess. I'm still in big trouble, though, aren't I?"
"Yeah, kiddo, you are. Nothing but school, homework, and music lessons for a week.":) (And dancing. ;)) * ( ... )

I know, and I'm very sorry for any despair that may have caused you. *snuggles*

It was just, "...okay, this is going to be something that Toby teaches his children."

:) (And dancing. ;)) *sigh* Andy's the best kind of mom. (Duh.)

Well, yes, the dancing just comes with the territory. :) And I want Andy to be *my* mom.

I lovelovelove Molly as a fighter, and Andy's gentleness after.Yeah, me too. I had so much fun ( ... )

*snugs* :) Seriously, I was reading at work and I had to stop and read it twice. And try not to be sucker-punched. Which didn't work, of course. *g* (Killing Toby off hurts in a very specific and very bizarre way. But you knew that. :))

Molly, on the other hand, was easier; in my head, she's this little powerhouse, sort of a mix between Andy, CJ, and-believe it or not-Donna. I can't wait to see what happens as she grows up.
She definitely has plenty of CJ in her, I think. Because CJ's the cool aunt. And there's no way she hasn't been giving Molly tips. *g* But I love that Donna's in the mix. (I starting to adore Donna. It's very strange! *g*) (And: 15 year old Molly-in-my-head is fantastic. I can't wait to see what you do. :))

See, you and Laura write Molly; I'll cover the boy. You two have already done more with her than it would ever have occurred to me to do. *happysigh* I love the twins. :)

*sniffle* I wasn't even thinking of what that would do to you. I realized later that you'd be sad, but it was too late to come back and put up a warning. I'm so sorry. It'll never happen again., I promise.

Get out of my head, Em! Honestly, While I was finishing this up last night, I had this little...flash-memory of Molly when she's older, about 14. And you're absolutely right, the girl is amazing.

See, you and Laura write Molly; I'll cover the boy. You two have already done more with her than it would ever have occurred to me to do.Well, I don't know how you and Laura do it, but I'm mostly just making Molly into the little girl that I never got to be, and giving her the awesome mom that I never had. (It's not quite as angsty and emo as it sounds, honest.) But, yeah, I'm loving writing Molly. Give me ( ... )

(She prays that Toby never got the chance to show them how to hold a roll of dimes in their tiny fists.)
That is so Toby!

Billy said that only bad people get cancer, and only the really awful ones die cause of it.
I'd hit Billy too. Hard. And David killed himself over cancer ... *wibbles*

Andy will be damned if she'll allow her children to his sadness as well.
oh, damn. *cries*

this is so ... damn me for being trite ... good.

Honest to god, I never even thought of David when I wrote that; in my head, Toby dies of lung cancer, due mostly from all the years of smoking cigars. But, yes, David. *sniffles*

And Billy...that snot-nosed little brat. *G* When I read this over and *I* felt like I wanted to smack him, I knew I had that part right. (Not that I condone hitting kids, of course. But, you know.)

this is so ... damn me for being trite ... good.

No, it's not trite. I understand what you're trying to say, and I appreciate that you took the time to leave a comment.

*hugs* I'm sorry, that may have been a little forward...

Thank you! I love Molly, and Andy's such an awesome mom.

Weirdly, I really liked the physical descriptions of Molly, the fidgeting, and solemn nodding, but especially -
"Molly sighs again and absently rubs at her forehead before she answers."
because it so reminded me of Toby, which may have been entirely unintentional, but still.

And in my head, coupled with: "Toby taught them both how to throw a punch" and "Molly may have inherited Toby's dark eyes, but Andy will be damned if she'll allow her children to his sadness as well. *breaks*

But (like Em) I can't believe you killed Toby! This family is so screwed up... And yet, in spite of this, Andy comes in and makes things better. Not perfect, cause she knows that it'll happen again, but better. Cause that's what mothers do. *loves on Andy* And thanks again.

Nope, not at all. Hugs are cool with me.

Isn't Andy the best mom? *G* And that forehead rubbing was actually intentional; it's one of those little things that I wanted Molly to have picked up from her dad.

I know, I killed Toby, and I'm really, really sorry. But I had to, because...well, I just had to. Forgive me?

This family is so screwed up... And yet, in spite of this, Andy comes in and makes things better. Not perfect, cause she knows that it'll happen again, but better. Cause that's what mothers do.

You said it right :). I'm glad you liked it all.

*reads, reads, reads, feels all warm and fuzzy at the idea of Toby teaching the kids to defend themselves Brooklyn style, reads, reads, reads, smiles at Molly rubbing her forehead, reads, reads....

"He said...he said that's why Daddy died."

...
........
Meep.
Now knows what it feels like to be hit by a ton of bricks.*

Absolutely gorgeous.

Thank you so much.

(Also, there's now a warning on the story, so that people might be able to avoid the 'I just got slammed into by a Mack truck' feeling.)
