Summary: "I miss the sun..."

“Faith, I’m caught out in the cold here! In fact, cold isn’t really an appropriate word. Please find me somewhere that won’t turn me into an icicle.”

A small laugh came through her mobile and Buffy Summers squeezed it harder in frustration.

“There's a cabin just over the next ridge. You should be able to ride out the storm in there. The front should pass by morning.”

Buffy hung up and shoved it into her pocket. The backpack on her shoulders was heavy and she shifted it into a more comfortable position.

“I miss the sun,” she muttered to herself, as she bowed her head and began walking into the driving snow.

Dean Winchester was still growling in frustration when he pushed on the cabin door. The woman inside froze and reached for her bag. He slammed the door shut and held up his hands.

“I don't want to rob you. Or hurt you. I just need a place to stay until this storm blows over.”

The woman relaxed and turned back to the cold fireplace. She rummaged around for a few minutes before giving up and sitting back on her heels. Dean moved cautiously toward her.

“Do you want me to light it?”

The woman’s lips pursed and she stood, waving an arm at the fireplace. Dean rose an eyebrow at the sarcasm and knelt down, inspecting the problem for himself. He'd just realised that it was useless when he heard her backpedal quickly and he glanced up in alarm. Her eyes darted to his waistband. He felt the gun at his back and stood.

“It's okay, I'm FBI!” He pulled out his fake ID and opened it for her. “I just got caught in the storm and had to abandon my car. I'm Dean Halen. What's your name?”

She held out a hand. “Buffy Benatar.”

His eyebrows drew together, even as he reached out to shake her hand, and he noticed the slight turn in the corners of her lips. She sat down on the floor and pulled her bag toward her.

“Well, Mr Halen, it's going to be a long, freezing night. Neither of us has provisions, we can't get a fire going, and the storm will be here ‘til morning. Why don't you tell me your cover story and I'll tell you mine?”

He frowned. “Cover story?”

“Oh, please!” Buffy rolled her eyes. “The only thing faker than that badge is your name. I know why I'm out here-it's probably the same reason you are-so instead of tiptoeing around each other, we can provide some entertainment. If either of us falls asleep, we’ll probably die of hypothermia. How about you start us off!”

He grinned as he took a seat beside her. “What if there are more fun ways of keeping entertained and warm?”

“I don't think so,” she said, shaking her head. “I wanna hear the lines first.”

As Dean began his rehearsed story, Buffy grinned at the antics. And clutched her weapons bag just in case
