Summary: Words on her skin, Pepper’s always had questions.

Timeline/Setting: A couple years after the end of the series for Buffy, and not long after the Avengers for Marvel.
Author's notes(if any): I’ve been reading some fanfic set in a universe where people have soulmates and the first thing their soulmate says is printed on their skin like a tattoo. It’s fanfic…. Cue hand waving for ages and dates of characters.
Pepper was worried, and a bit scared. She wasn’t sure how long ago she had been grabbed from the parking lot. It was a very quickly done and since then she hadn’t seen who had taken her or heard any taunting from them. No teasing about how big a reward Tony would pay for her, or how the Avengers would waltz into the trap they set for them with Pepper as bait.
She wondered if Tony had noticed she was missing yet. They weren’t as close as they appeared to be in the media. Pepper still held out hope she would meet her soulmate and Tony was able to decline a lot of parties and keep a good image out of the tabloids as a serious boyfriend in a committed relationship. They were friends and talked when they were able to but she had the company to run and Tony had his suits and equipment for the Avengers.
Pepper tried to go through the yoga routine Natasha had showed her but she couldn’t focus. The pounding at the door was unexpected and the door bursting open surprised her mid pose change.
Pepper looked at the man keeping the door open and holding his hand out to her.
“We need to run now.”
Jumping up Pepper grabbed his hand and didn’t look back as they ran.
Sometime later Pepper watched the man brew a cup of tea and get a first aid kit from her comfortable chair in the house her rescuers brought her to. Taking the large mug of hot tea she wrapped both hands around the mug as he crouched down to look at some scrapes she’d acquired.
“I had wondered why we would have to hurry.” Pepper quietly to the top of the man’s head.
His head shot up and he lost his balance landing on the floor in a sprawl. “I’ll always run to you. Hi. I’m Xander.”
“Hello Xander. I’m Pepper. Actually my name is Virginia but people call me Pepper.”
“You have a beautiful name Virginia. I’d love to get to know you.” Xander said taking her hands in his.
“Me too.”
