The first time Siri Tachi realized that something was different about her, it was in front of the mirror in the fresher. A scream escaped her lips before she could control herself. She griped the sink, trying to stop her body from shaking. Her eyes... A trembling hand detached itself from the sink to touch her face. The image in the mirror did the same, its bright green eyes wide with shock. She blinked a few times, and her eyes returned to their normal shade of deep blue.
“What’s going on?” she whispered, taking a deep breath. “What’s happening to me?” This was only the latest in a list of odd things that had been happening to her lately. She would be sparring with her Master, Adi Gallia, or another Padawan, and she would use moves she never remembered learning. There were the words like “wiggins” or “un-mixey” that would float to the surface of her mind. And then there were the dreams. The dreams where she was fighting fearsome creatures that reeked of the Dark Side with deformed faces and that crumbled into dust if she stabbed their chests with a piece of wood. She was willing to dismiss the dreams as a result of a too active imagination, but this changed things dramatically. The Force, her constant companion and source of comfort, was offering her no guidance as to what was going on.
The rest of the day after the incident with her eyes, Siri did her best to avoid interacting with her fellow Jedi, knowing that they would sense her distress and confusion through the Force. Making her way to the Room of a Thousand Fountains, she perched on a stone overlooking a secluded pool of water. Settling herself into a comfortable position, she closed her eyes. Taking a deep breath, she did her best to release her fear, her confusion into the Force, letting it fill that empty space within her.
Deeper and deeper she sank into her meditation, becoming more attuned with the Living Force around her. Just as she began to feel comfortable with its flows of energy, she felt the world suddenly shift around her.
Siri’s eyes snapped open and she lunged to her feet. Turning around, she found herself in the middle a desert, the rays of the setting sun casting a reddish glow upon the sand. The only things that she could see were the stunted trees desperately growing in the sandy ground. She tried to reach out with the Force to discern where she was, but she felt nothing, as if the Force simply did not exist here. Trying to quell her growing panic at this sudden and unexpected loss, she rubbed her hands on her tunic and tried to come up with a rational explanation for her predicament.
“You think you know,” came a voice from behind her. Whirling around, she spied two figures standing a few meters from her. The first was a savage-looking woman, white paint smeared over her dark skin and her matted hair. She tilted her head, examining Siri with an almost feral expression. It was the second person, however, who drew Siri’s attention. She was an inch or so shorter than Siri, her long blond hair loose around her shoulders. Her simple clothes were in a style unfamiliar to Siri, although she felt like she had worn them at some point. It was her eyes, though, that caused Siri to freeze. They were the same ones that had been in the mirror this morning.
“What do I think I know?” Siri asked, trying to sound more sure of herself and more confidant than she truly was. The woman walked closer and gave Siri a sad smile. She reached out and gently touched Siri’s face. “What are you talking about?”
“You think you know what’s to come, what you are,” the woman elaborated, gently caressing Siri’s cheek. “You haven’t even begun.”
Siri was about to ask her what she meant when she felt herself being thrust back into the Room of a Thousand Fountains. She gasped for air as she sensed the Force flowing around her once again, almost as if she had never left. Feeling another presence nearby, she opened her eyes and was greeted with the sight of the venerable Grand Master of the Jedi Order, Master Yoda, standing next to her. He looked at her for a moment, the slight twitching of his ears the only sign that he wasn’t carved from stone. Siri scrambled to her feet and gave him an awkward bow. “Master Yoda,” she said, trying to keep her voice from shaking.
“Padawan Tachi,” he greeted her gravely. “Come with me. Much to discuss, we have.”
