Light.
The word raced through her confused mind.
Blinding.
Hurting.
Want the dark.
A whimper escaped her throat as she tried to turn away from the light.
She felt something soft against her cheek and the light dimmed, somehow she felt safe. A small sigh fell from her lips as she slipped back into unconsciousness.
~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~
Light.
The thought once more ran through her mind, only this time it didn't hurt.
Of course, as she tried to move, she realized everything else hurt instead, even h er skin hurt.
A whimper escaped her.
She stilled as a cool hand rested on her forehead.
“Open your eyes,” a smooth voice commanded.
Buffy felt a surge of emotion at the sound - comfort, peace, relief.
Curious about who could own such a voice, she cracked her eyes open and found herself staring into an attractive face.
“My name is Obi-Wan Kenobi,” he said.
“Ben,” Buffy mumbled, not sure why the name seemed right to her.
A wry smile appeared on the bearded face. “Close enough,” he allowed. “Can you tell me your name?”
“Buffy,” she whispered before wincing as pain flared in her throat.
“I imagine you're thirsty. Take a few sips of this. You can have some water after this medicine has a chance to work.”
“What is it?” she asked, knowing she would take whatever he told her to as long as it helped her feel better.
Ben smiled at her. “Sometimes it's best not to ask, but I assure you it will work wonders.”
Taking his word for it, Buffy swallowed the liquid in the cup. Ben helped her sit more upright and guided the cup to her mouth. Even the small, simple movements she made hurt, but Buffy soon forgot her discomfort as the flavor of the liquid hit her and triggered her gag reflex. She considered it a minor miracle it didn't made a return trip out of her.
“A truly vile concoction,” Ben agreed, setting aside the empty cup. “But it does wonders for healing.”
“What's wrong...?” Buffy asked, her voice drifting off. She could feel the medicine working, but it still hurt to talk too much just yet.
“You had some fractured bones and a fair sized lump on your head. From the position you were in, you seemed to have fallen some distance, though I can not guess from where you fell. Most serious, however, is the exposure you suffered. I am uncertain how long you were outside without cover or protection, but you are very lucky to be alive.”
Buffy blinked, absorbing his words. Exposure. It didn't feel cold here, so that must mean sun. That would also explain the painfully bright light earlier. A glance at her skin showed it to be a vibrant red. Yep. Sunburn. “Where is here?” she asked.
Ben smiled. “You're in my home on the planet Tatooine.”
