I wonder if they'd feel so bad about Ben's death if they knew he was responsible for the Queller demon. Yeah, he's human, but he has a lot of blood on his hands, too.

He did, but with where I put this in the timeline (in my mind), I don't think Buffy was quite there yet with the resolve to end humans that are mystical threats. The Knights hadn't yet shown up to be a human enemy for her. In my world, they're fanatic enough to realize Glory is gone and not show up. With Hank there with her, she'll have a chance to grow up a bit more before she had to make that choice on her own.

Interesting AU and solid reason for his absence. I did appreciate the demarcation of what Buffy isn't prepared to do and what he is. This could lead to some curious relationship dynamics with Giles for example and very divergent later seasons :)

I think it will allow Giles to fill in as more of an equal/co-worker/friend type person instead of also being father to all of them. Of course, with his many years in the IMF community, I don't think the nerd trio will get quite as far as they did before. :-)

It'd give Giles a peer that he may grow to appreciate, especially after he eschewed The Council. Also, his potential access to ordnance and cutting edge tech via colleagues for apocalypse season.
