Kill Bill vol 1 + 2

My Tarantino retrospective at Cinemateket continues. Thursday night I went and saw a double feature of both Kill Bill films back to back. It was great fun, though technical mishaps and terrible subtitle translations kept pulling me out of the film, which was a shame.
The sound would cut for a good couple of seconds after every single cue mark. It ( Read more... )

Not sure if this is available in your country (I'm not sure if Criterion is region free) but they are doing a release of 'Lady Snowblood' and when they release a movie, they take great pains to make it a collector's edition (it was just dumb luck I noticed this while searching for the "Inside Llewyn Davis" blu-ray last week).

Oh nice! Thanks for the headsup! I'll be on the lookout for it, it seems my local entertainment shop only has the DVD version of the Criterion collector's edition, but I'll ask if they can get a hold of the blu-ray as well :D

I have to jump in at this.

Don't know about the BluRays, but I have been watching DVDs with VLC player for ages and I have quite forgotten the inconvenience regional encoding is: it plays them all (as do many other players, so I think there should be one for BluRays).

Of course, I only ever watch movies on computers, there is that :)

My friend bought a region free blu-ray player for like $120 and now he orders stuff from Amazon.uk all the time. Might be a good investment since you're so into movies. :)

I'm a bit of a casual fan of Tarantino but I loved the Kill Bill films when I saw them. I know what you mean about the two differing somehow, and I remember preferring the second one for some reason. I'll have to watch them again at some point.

You might have noticed that I am more than a casual fan xD; though I admit a lot of the references are still lost on me. I really enjoy his style and voice, it is so unique! He makes me want to learn more about contemporary film history :)

I was reading a book on youkai yesterday, and apparently snakes are traditionally used to symbolise revenge! This blew my mind, I had no idea. It makes so much sense, and lol forever at Bill's AKA being Snake Charmer. Hahhahahahaha.

I thought Uma Thurman was really ugly
This is very funny to me for some reason. I did not find her beautiful in the role, but far from ugly too.

I think this one was my first Tarantino film as well. At least, knowingly so from the start. I did not expect to like it, but I very much did!

I really didn't like her in Pulp Fiction either, but this has somehow also changed. I think there was just something about her actual appearance in general that didn't appeal to me :X
