It's awards season, and for the first time I'm checking out a video game awards show. Even though this happened back in December, I wanted to see what it was like. The Game Awards. Come on bring it. Tell me what the best games of 2015 were! ..... nope. The show is SO FUCKING TERRIBLE. Ashfjksahfskajfhjkas. It makes me embarrassed to enjoy video ( Read more... )

The only video game award shows I have seen were on the "Spike" network here, which was an awful "man" network and so the award shows reflected that. I don't know if I've ever watching anything else related because that experience was so painful.

I will probably end up renting 'Hateful Eight' if only because I'm not a huge Tarantino fan and I'm guessing I'll spend half the film with my hands ready to cover my face or ears LOL.

It's so stupid, these award shows could be a real celebration of video games, but instead it's treated like any old PR event with people blurting out URLs for free game downloads, showing off freebies, or generally pimping their games or game studios. It just felt really cheap and weird. PR stuff should be kept to PR events or conventions. Meh. I'll give this another go once they decide to actually award game creators.

My cinema format heart bleeds, but yessss. Go see it. I have no idea what it will be like to experience it for the first time on a small screen, though 8D; and as I've only seen the 70mm roadshow version, I don't actually know what the regular release version is like. Apparently it's a little shorter, some scenes have been cut from it.

In one little paragraph you've helped me make my decision - not to watch. I'm not a Tarantino fan at all and the only reason I thought about seeing it was the Western theme. If it's more violent horror, then thank you, but no, thank you.

Yeah, if you don't like Tarantino's previous work, there wouldn't be much in there for you to enjoy :/

There are some great people in the video game industry but they so rarely come to the forefront. It's so much worse than the movie industry and it's endlessly frustrating. I often feel quite maligned by the fact that I'm not a straight white youth.

The award show I watched was just a huge PR thing. Imagine the Oscars where the only categories were best producer, best agent, best studio, best promotion campaign ... where none of the creative people behind the work got to share in the praise. That was the sort of event this was. It was bizarre. I want the game industry to be taken seriously, but they're constantly doing these ridiculous things that make them seem childish and dumb. It's frustrating. I know they could do better if they shifted their focus somewhat. There's no doubt in my mind that video games are works of art, but the industry is making it difficult to defend this view.
