I have developed a bad habit of checking my work e-mail after work. Most of our clients are in different time zones, so I get most of my translation tasks during the night. Of course, checking my e-mail before going in to work in the morning the next day, gives me an idea of what to expect and lets me mentally prepare for the next workday. On the ( Read more... )

Yeah, if you can leave work at work it is best for you to do so. You need to be able to live life after all.

It may be easier to not fight, but things are generally better when you are more honest. At least you feel a lot saner afterwards, even if the words do no good. Then again, I usually fight with my family so perhaps I am not the most grounded of people to talk about this sort of situation.

Things are indeed better when you're honest, and if you leave work at work, it'll be better for you.

I'm sorry that you and your parents have been having issues. All in all, I think it's better to be up front with them.

I end up spending the rest of the night (or sometimes the entire weekend) planning things out and worrying about the chaos I'll be faced with. - Same.

I'd say not checking your work email sounds like the way to go! I only check my work email at home if it's something extremely necessary because I'll end up stressing about things for no good reason otherwise. xP

I hope things go alright with your parents! I totally understand what you mean, really. I do think honesty is the better way to go, and I'm happy that I was finally honest with my mother. I hope that the resulting conversation you have, if you have it, is more successful (I don't regret anything, but I do hope for a positive outcome for others).

Once you're off work, you are off work. Can you, like, turn off your email or something? Log out until the next day? Ubuntu has workspaces, so one space can have work stuff while others have whatever else; they don't overlap at all.

Unless you're getting paid overtime, don't overdo your job. You need your you-time.
