Btw, it came up in one of my courses and I was wondering: do you talk Bokmal, Nynorsk or dialect? Haha, it's my Germanic language course and the part about Norway was a bit confusing :D.

Bokmål and Nynorsk are our two written languages. No one talks in either of them 8D Kind of complicated, I know. Basically Bokmål is based on Danish (we wrote in Danish before we developed our own writing language), and then some guy called Ivar Aasen went out and started collecting Norwegian dialects. His efforts eventually turned into Nynorsk, and it was meant to be a more "true Norwegian" option as it represented how people actually talked.
I write in bokmål, though and my Oslo/Eastern Norwegian dialect is pretty close to bokmål.

When Dutch gained official status in Belgium, there were two groups too. People who wanted to keep our Dutch close to the Dutch of the Netherlands and people who wanted something more based on our dialects.
But the people for the first option won that argument haha. Otherwise Belgium might have the same situation as you!

Ooh, interesting. Bokmål and Nynorsk are supposed to be equal, but there are far more people using Bokmål :x I was taught Nynorsk at school, but I found it really clunky and difficult. Probably because it doesn't represent how I actually speak.

Space here. I had this unused account. It bothered me, so I had to at least check these names.

It's no wonder I couldn't remember what to call the first church: it's just the Helsinki Cathedral. It's not Orthodox, just funky Russian-inspired architecture.

The second was the Uspenski Cathedral. I have no excuse for forgetting that.
