Instead of signing up for different classes and being with different people in each class, we're sorted, seemingly randomly, into a set class of people which we take all classes with.

I think it's good to take a break from the norm at times and it sounds like you've been having fun. It's cool you are feeling more relaxed about your Japan trip. :)
