"Jesus!" Wilson exclaimed, nearly jumping out of his skin as he ran into someone he hadn't seen before right outside the bathroom door. He was feeling physically much better, especially after discovering that House wasn't dead or maimed via flying monkeys and he'd decided to take a shower. It was something that had always made him feel more human, even if he didn't have his hairdryer. Unfortunately, the shower had done nothing to quell his jumbled nerves and after the events of the last few days, it seemed unlikely that he'd ever feel calm again.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there," he gasped. He suddenly realized he was only wearing his robe and self-consciously pulled it tighter around himself. "I'm not really used to this communal living thing. And where are my manners. I'm James Wilson, but call me Wilson." He realized he sounded nervous and jittery, but just couldn't help himself. It would've been rude not to introduce himself at least.

Abby couldn't blame the guy for being jumpy, she had only been here a day and her nerves were already frayed around the edges. She noticed that he was wearing a robe and that wisps of steam were billowing around behind him and remembered that this was the bathroom Miss Marge had mentioned ( ... )

"Good to meet you Abby," Wilson replied with a nod. He was starting to relax a bit, which was good, but he could still feel his heart beat just a bit too quickly. With the recent events, from the house disappearing to getting sick, to the monkeys and thinking House was dead, it was getting harder and harder for Wilson to trust and bounce back. In reality, he'd always had problems trusting people at first, he'd just done a good job of hiding it.

"Don't worry about it. It's this place that makes me jumpy, not you," he said, putting on his famous smile, the one that often got him laid, though he wasn't consciously flirting.

He blushed slightly at her mention of seeing him on the television. West always seemed to catch him at his absolute worst moments, but he shook off the thought as he immediately became worried about her going into town. His brow furrowed and he took a better look at her. "You're not going alone are you?"

If Abby had known all of the strange things that had gone one there, jumpy wouldn't have begun to describe how she would have felt. But she didn't, still having the minor luxury of some form of ignorance. Still, she didn't doubt for a minute that Peaksville was the cause of his jumpiness, and she nodded her understanding. She would have been willing to bet that fact was true of all of its captives ( ... )

"No, nononononono," Wilson said quickly, shaking his head for emphasis. "it can't be." He sounded stubborn, but really he was just trying to hang onto his sanity. He just couldn't wrap his head around fictional characters being real. Or that he might not be real, as West had suggested.

He did, in fact, jump when Abby pinched him, but it was effective. He calmed down a bit and actually started to listen to her again.

"So what you're saying is, watching television is really like looking into another universe and we just think they're fictional? But then how do you explain all the people that come together to make a t.v. show? How do they find out about these alternate dimensions or other universes or whatever and then write about them? More importantly, does this mean people from other worlds could be watching us?" Wilson shivered at the thought. He didn't like the idea of people watching him all the time. The idea of Big Brother had always been one to scare him.

The grin transformed to a pensive look as she thought over his question. It was valid, and vaguely troubling because she didn't like the idea of being watched any more than Wilson did. But still, it was preferable to being some fictional character.

Although, if she were right, and this were an alternate universe, and if Wilson had hit the nail on the head about people watching them, didn't that make them fictional?

"I'm not sure," she said, slowly, still thinking. "I guess if it goes one way, it would kind of have to go the other..." She gnawed the inside of her lip, staring down at her mug again. And then her head popped up, hands raised at her sides, fingers splayed. She said one word. "Athena."

Then she shook her head. "Well, not exactly like Athena, but sort of. You know the myth, how she popped fully formed from Zeus's head after he ate her mother? Well, what if it's kind of like that. The people who work on the show, the writers, they think us into existence ( ... )

"I'm really not seeing much good to any of this," Wilson said with a frown. "Either West isn't lying and we're all fictional characters that don't really exist, or the gods live among us and think us into existence so that characters made by other gods can watch us for entertainment. If that's the case, does that mean it's possible that West is one of the gods who thought us into existence?"

Wilson really didn't like where his thoughts were taking him. If Abby was right, then West could be telling the truth and yet they could be real. But how do you fight a god? He suddenly had this image in his head of West being an evil god who decided to play with his creations in a mean way and all the other gods just think he's an ass and leave him be with the stupid humans. It was not a happy thought process.

Abby pulled a face, thinking hard. She was an optimist by nature but really, there wasn't a whole lot of silver lining here.

"Well, not gods per se but, yeah, something like that."

She sat back, drank some cold tea, still thinking. "The details are a little fuzzy, I admit that, but I'm feeling pretty confident about the alternate reality thing. That's the only thing that makes sense," she said, not adding that it was the only thing that made sense and still left them in the Not Fake category. Anything else was simply unacceptable.

"All the world's a stage, right?" she said, more or less thinking aloud.
