They used centers in other communities, but then the one in Anzac had to be evacuated as well. Some the oil companies have cut production and people were using the camps there, but there were too many so they were flown out, it is a nightmare.
I have been watching videos of it on the new services over here. What a catastrophe. All those people in their cars bumper to bumper with the fire surging towards them. It would have been closer to hell than I'd ever want to get.
As you know Australia has its share of bush fires, but we have never (to my knowledge) had a fire of that magnitude so close to a city of 80 thousand people. Our fires are more out on the fringe.
We have a great relationship with your guys, and when need we have also gone to Australia.
We know a few younger guys who have been in the middle of fire for a summer, it is gruelling work. This fire continues and likely will do so until we get rain, and there is no sign of that.

We usually have Australian firefighters here in BC most summers now, and we have so many trees!
It will take years to rebuild:(

It's good that they can help out the Canadian firefighters. It takes a special sort of person to try and get those huge fires under control.
