Very gorgeous! Short and sweet. I like how you've taken one little teeny tiny aspect (that would be the snakes) and used it to illustrate the span of Alexander's life. Very skilful of you. The last line is beautiful in its conviction.

Actually, I hadn't noticed that I used the snake to illustrate the span of Alexander's life, but that was my theme, so I wanted the snake to reappear in different forms and places (ie. In the cradle, in India, on the cup, on the circlet).

After Hephaistion's death, Alexander sought the Oracle to declare Hephaistion immortal. Because Alexander supposedly had some divine blood, if Hephaistion died as a mortal, they would not end up in the same place in the afterlife. Also, Ouroboros is a symbol showing a snake swallowing it's own tail and represents cycles that begin again as soon as they end.
